About Curved Space

Curved Space is an intense arcade-style twin-stick shooter that takes the classic formula and plunges it into the weirdest reaches of space. Battle cosmic space-invading spiders across curved landscapes where bullets hug the terrain while the horizon drops sharply out of sight.

Inspired by arcade classics, players will have to hunt for weapon power-ups and upgrades while dodging enemy fire, blasting interdimensional bugs, and wrangling some enormous boss monsters. Simple to learn as you fight your way through the branching story-driven campaign, but tough to master as you chase the glory of the leaderboards.
  • Old School Shmup Reimagined: Enjoy the high-energy action of traditional 2D shoot ‘em ups in a warped 3D space. Climb walls, flip over to the other side of your environment, and experience breathtaking vistas.
  • Play Your Style & Top the Leaderboards: Experience your space pilot’s harrowing journey in Campaign, take on new challenges, test your skills, and chase your place on the leaderboards in Daily Runs, Arena, Survival and Endless game modes.
  • Ride the Synthwave: Get in the zone with a high-energy synthwave soundtrack in partnership with FiXT Neon, featuring artists like Scandroid, 3Force, and Fury Weekend.
  • Upgrade & Take Them Down: Collect a plethora of ability and weapon upgrades. Weapons are varied (from lasers to flamethrowers to weed wackers!) and equipped with their own overdrive states!
  • Campaign: Take on the role of an energy harvester in the midst of a galactic spider invasion. Your choices will lead you to take on one of three potential versions of the game’s protagonist to fight back the invasion on asteroids, space stations, and other intergalactic stages. Each unique version takes the story in a different direction.
  • Arena: Take on over 60 randomized challenges from the game’s campaign for a chance to get your name on the local leaderboard.
  • Survival: Fight through waves of invaders with each wave presenting a new, more difficult challenge.
  • Endless: Tackle waves of randomized challenges from the campaign as well as additional objectives as you adapt to what the game decides to throw your way.
  • Daily Run: You get one shot each day to complete this daily run and achieve the highest score possible. Failed to make the leaderboard today? There’s always a new challenge tomorrow.

Not fun. Ship moves so slow. The spherical areas don't enhace the gameplay, but make it worse. I often needed to search for enemies or the current objective on the 3D area. Bosses are bullet sponges without being dangerous, they just take long to shoot down. Tutorial was bad. Buttons were not explained. Story lines are weird. Music is ok, but has long cuts so that I thought something went wrong. The only thing I liked was that the projectile's paths were distorted by the 3D area and generally the idea of the game, but I found the gameplay was so badly made that I cannot recommend this game.

If Nano Assault were in space instead of in a body. Also the enemies are spiders and there's a branching narrative. The feel could be better but there's a lot of weapons and variety and replay value with interesting stage design and permanent upgrades. It's a bit on the easy side. For those looking for a shoot em up that's got more content and intrigue and less a white knuckle test of your reaction skills and visual processing, give this one a go. It's neat and seems underappreciated.

There's nothing wrong with the game per se. It works and does what it advertises. It's just not really all that fun. There's a few interesting ideas but they aren't put to use well. It feels like a mobile game and that's not a compliment here.

It is a bit like Tempest the Arcade game except with free movement and all kinds of stuff. It is quite well made. It has voice acting and everything. I got this game from a Fanatical Mystery Bundle.

Curved Space is a fast-paced arcade shooter developed by Only By Midnight Ltd. and published by Maximum Games. The game draws heavy inspiration from classic twin-stick shooters while introducing a distinctive gameplay twist through its curved environments. Instead of fighting across flat arenas, players pilot a spacecraft across warped surfaces that bend and wrap around planetary structures, asteroids, and futuristic installations. This unusual approach to level design creates a constantly shifting battlefield where enemies and projectiles travel along curved paths, giving the game a unique spatial dynamic that sets it apart from many traditional shooters. The game places players in the role of a space pilot working as an energy harvester in a distant part of the galaxy. During what should be a routine mission, mysterious mechanical spider-like creatures begin attacking installations and asteroid fields, turning a simple job into a fight for survival. As the pilot moves from sector to sector battling these hostile machines, fragments of a larger mystery begin to emerge. While the narrative is not particularly deep, it provides a light framework that connects the missions together …
