About Video Poker 95

Video Poker 95

Video Poker 95 is a deck-builder roguelike, you know what that means at this point. You're collecting cards and then doing something with those cards, in this case, that's playing video poker.

Collect Cards

You'll start with a deck of some of your favourite cards, the Ace of Spades, Queen of Hearts, 6 of Clubs and from there, you'll find that there are a plethora of fresh, new cards with exciting abilities. Add them to the deck and experiment to find out which synergies work best.

Merge Cards

If collecting cards isn't working well for you, why not try merging your cards? Merged cards keep the values and abilities of the two merged cards, allowing you to craft the best possible cards for your deck.

Install Software

Installing new software provides you with even more ways to refine your deck and explore new synergies. There's dozens of Software in the game to install and experiment with, all with the aim of improving your deck and making it even more over powered.

Complete Challenges

So what's the point of all this deck building and Software installing? To play Video Poker, of course! But all these new cards and abilities wouldn't be fun to play with without an equal challenge to overcome. Fight your way through as many unique Challenges as possible, as they do their best to slow you down, take your credits and send you back to the square one.

Try, Try and Try Again

But, this is a roguelike, so even if they succeed and send you back, that's half the fun, click the New Game button and try again. With the right choices and some good luck, you'll be able to make every deck you build an incredible one, but if you aren't making the right choices or have bad luck, at least you'll be able to make a deck that's unique.

I've only played for a bit, but I love everything about it. I really like the overall game design--both graphics and gameplay wise--and I've thoroughly enjoyed playing it. More on the design, I absolutely adore this game's art style. Making the game itself a window within the window itself is such a cool design choice, and that paired with the separate windows for other stats, the start dropdown to pull up said windows, and, the taskbar that functions as an actual taskbar make this game feel really unique. There were a couple of bugs, one of which is a potentially visual issue where in which after you complete a run, your items stay on the desktop, and your items from your new run are thrown on top of said items, no to mention you keep your previous run's health bar on screen, as well as fighting the Expert Calibration Tech as the starting challenge. However, bugs are to be expected in an early access release, so I have faith that those will be patched out down the line. Overall, great stuff!

A really fun little game, especially for the price! It is obviously still pretty rough around the edges. Occasional crashes occur, and sometimes the game seems to forget I had lost HP earlier. But I had a lot of fun, and really hope to see the game grow. I also appreciate the developers sense of humor with some of the references. The core gameplay loop is solid, but there is a lot of room for expansion and new options. I look forward to seeing how this develops.
