Shards of the Realm

Very cool game. I always loved sandboxy simulation games like Mount & Blade but wished, "what if instead of a big medieval warband i could just have a fantasy RPG party instead?" This game feels a bit like that. It's rough around the edges - well, it's pretty rough all around. But still, this is cool. Combat gets pretty interesting. You don't see what your character's don't see, so how you approach battles is more interesting than in games where every unit position is revealed from the start.

Man this one is very addictive.

The core concept of this game really stands out to me. Blending a sandbox approach with time pressure makes for a compelling and unusual experience. The amount of content is impressive, and overall it’s a remarkable achievement for a solo developer.

This game has so much to offer and like. It has a great combination of explore, fight, RPG, and city management. Nothing is explained in the game on how to do anything other than move around and fight some simple fights. When you encounter many times of not being able to do something, nothing comes up and tells you why you can not do it. When you finally figure out what was blocking you, it is way later in the game. There are so many things in this game that need some kind of explanation. Why you are allowed to do certain things now but later you can not do them. I would like to be told why I can't do something. The percent chance to hit numbers look good but they are not quite right. 99% to hit is more like 75%. 91% and 87% only hit 50% of the time. Anything less than 87% never hits more than 25% of the time. Why Clerics and heal potions do not heal permanently? I give the creator of this game a lot of credit. He listens to your complaints and tries to answer them, He fixed a problem I had with the game quickly. I changed my review do to his involvement and his trying to solve my problems.

UI was rough and whole unappealing. Lack of ability to design your own initial party.... (you could pick their classes, but not their Appearance.) While I liked the entire premise, Game at the time of purchase lacked the ability to enjoy Windowed mode. Alot of little things, that simply were unappealing, and note enough selling points to make me want to keep the game past the 2 hour mark.
