About Shardpunk
✦ AI summary
Lead a scrappy survivor crew through a rat-infested steampunk city, making brutal tactical decisions and resource management choices as you sprint between bunkers ahead of an endless horde. Shardpunk blends XCOM-style turn-based combat with Darkest Dungeon's tough consequences, forcing you to weigh who gets the last medpack while keeping your fragile steampunk weapons from overheating in the heat of battle.
Outrun the horde and survive another day in the war-torn Capitol.
SEEK SHELTER
In Shardpunk you already lost. Now you need to run for your life while saving as many people and pieces of equipment as possible. Keep on moving and use every skill and item at your disposal to reach the safety of fusion core-operated bunkers.TACTICAL GAMEPLAY
Put together a crew of survivors and use a range of steampunk weapons and bots to scavenge for resources, slow down the horde, and reach safety. Shardpunk mixes turn-based tactical strategy with RPG, survival, and resource management. From battle tactics to the most difficult decisions on who should receive the last medpack or rations, you’ll need to take charge and (hopefully) live with its consequences.VICTORIAN STEAMPUNK
The Rat Swarm has breached the walls of The Capitol and flooded the city with its vermin horde. There is so much this game does right, But there is one thing i can never forgive a game for and that is making it so hard not skill based hard but hard because they swarm you with enemies you really cant kill all because my guess is its a short game and they want you to play the same levels a ton of times to make you think its a long game. Now i dont know if that is the reason but really I get to the last level on the starting area just fine but the last level they swarm you with enemies that have armor and in this game armor is not extra hp they always have it unless you have a way to shred it with on a 1st playthrough you wont most likely and no only are those enemies bulky and hard to kill they also do a ton of damage to you . Also i am sure the hit chance is wrong because i missed 12 shots in a row at 65% chance and before anyone says i am getting it wrong i am not because even that the odds are very low. Missing 12 times in a row at 65% accuracy is roughly a (or 1 in 40,000) chance, making it extremely unlikely, yet mathematically possible.9 found this helpful
Pros -Does not have long played out cut-scenes for every attack like most TBT games -Can play on controller and chill on the couch -has good pacing and is just barely complex enough to reward being clever -the survival elements and the goal always being to escape and not fight works well with TBT -its not a word salad like most story driven TBT's, or menu slop like the uber complex ones, you get right into the game very quickly -aside from a few broken characters, you always feel like your team build will have 1 fatal flaw no matter the comp (which imo is a good thing, and im pretty sure that was by design) Cons -The rats are literally skaven to a copyright degree, even have warpstones. The story is not complex so they could've literally been anything and it still wouldve worked, lizards/orcs/ghouls/ect. And on top of that it didnt help that Ive never liked rats as enemies in general. -I'm a big fan of sprite art but its 8bit style is too low imo, you can argue its 16bit but zoomed out but i would disagree and compare it to Front mission in 1995 which was more detailed. -Tilly should be nerfed and I assume Leah needs to be as well, Gideons overwatch gets busted in the late game …1 found this helpful
I should have played this sooner. Yeah it's basically pixel XCOM, but the art and style is very awesome, and there are some very cool new mechanics. The rogue-like nature of needing to manage your supplies vary carefully combined with the general objective to "just escape" makes the battles feel quite different in a good way.
I bought the game 2 days ago, and i'm having a great time exploring what i assume is the UK. Personally feel the difficulty for a first run was nailed just right on medium, and i can see myself enjoy hard mode once i understand the mechanics a little more, if you enjoy turn based tactics with a dash of survival resource management, then buy Shardpunk. Pro: - Simple to learn combat mechanics with enough depth to entertain you for a few runs. - Chapters and encounters are well paced, not too long or short, with enough loot that you'll never be truly tapped for resources, but rarely feel like you have enough to consider yourself safe. - Each chapter has a few routes you can take, allowing you to pick which fight sounds most doable to you, or allowing you to fast track whatever route has the best looting options. - The characters, while somewhat devoid of story, will occasionally call out encouragement to the others, making them feel a little more alive. con: - Armor values on the ratogres seems a bit high, if you didn't get any shred or pierce by the time they show up you'll likely spend a turn or two chipping at a brick wall with malicious intent. - Dodge is a somewhat irritating …
Not really well balanced, which is very sad as the core mechanics would be good. On normal difficulty starting from around campaign level 4 (after like 3 hours playing), single enemies out of big groups get unbeatable they have so many hp and armor. So you basically "run" through the level, leaving all the lotable places untouched. This kind of gameplay will ofcourse weaken your team further down the path. At around level 6 its getting increasingly boring and dull because you have to restart the level several times to get somehow through. Would not recommend im sorry. And no its not becuase its "hard", its because the gameplay is not well balanced.
4 rats come every single round. If you lose one character ever you lose this game.
