About 2nd EVE

Synopsis:

The Moon was shattered. A mysterious impact knocked it off course, and now it's on a slow, inevitable collision with Earth. Humanity's last hope lies in three massive colony ships bound for the closest thing to a new Earth, Proxima B.You play as Sister Zola, a nun, psychiatrist, and high-ranking officer, tasked with protecting the minds of the colonists during their long cryosleep. But hyperspace, as you will soon discover, is not empty, for some devils have found their way through. When the Argos jumps into the unknown, reality fractures. The crew loses their minds or their souls. Some awaken changed, twisted into nightmare beings. Rogue machines stalk the corridors. The ship itself becomes a hostile, ever-shifting maze.Armed with faith, newfound powers, and your precious staff, you must fight your way through the shattered halls of Argos. Save who you can. Destroy what you must. And pray that, in the abyss of hyperspace, you don't lose your soul too.

Key Features:

  • Tactical Combat: Every encounter demands thought. Cooldowns govern your abilities, positioning determines survival, and timing separates victory from failure. Each confrontation requires careful consideration of when to strike, where to stand, and how to react.
  • Narrative-Driven Exploration: The Argos was meant to carry humanity to safety. Now its corridors echo with madness and whispers from the void. Piece together what happened when the ship entered hyperspace through scattered logs, twisted crew testimonies, and signs that defy explanation. As Sister Zola, uncover the truth behind the corruption that has taken hold, and face impossible choices about who can still be saved and who is beyond redemption. Your decisions shape both the story's outcome and the ship's fate.
  • Build Flexibility: Your abilities adapt to your approach. Channel Zola's powers through devastating spells, hone your skills in close combat, or perfect ranged precision. No rigid classes, so you can shift between styles as the situation demands or the story unfolds.
  • Haunting Atmosphere: The ship itself tells the story: flickering lights reveal traces of struggle, distant echoes hint at unseen horrors, and corrupted transmissions bleed through the silence. Every sound and shadow contributes to the unraveling mystery of what hyperspace has done to the Argos and its inhabitants.
  • Streamlined Experience: No cluttered menus or resource management to break the tension. 2nd EVE keeps the interface minimal and purposeful, stripping away inventory screens so nothing pulls you out of the moment. The story lives in the environment itself, told through the ship's decaying corridors, scattered crew logs, and the silent evidence of what ARGOS has done to the people left behind. When the horror speaks, you are already inside it.

This is one of those reviews where a mid ranking would be good, but I have to give it a "skip for now" instead. The vibe of this is off the chain, you play as a sort of sister sororitas, but without the warhammer license. You're aboard a starship, and bad juju has gone down. Monsters roam the halls, and it's more or less on you to be a one-woman problem solver, and the tool you use to solve problems is a massive spear. The spear is pretty good, the game controls well and has a weightier feel than many action games. Some people won't like this but I did; that spear has heft, and you need to time your murder spree swings. It's not a brawler, needing a bit more thought and finesse (but it's not difficult). So far, so good. That unfortunately is where things stop being good. - Voice acting is... not good. - Graphics look nice enough but this needs to be run on Low settings on my rig and it struggles to hit 60fps (usually 50-55). On High settings, it struggles to hit 25fps. - Content feels recycled, I enountered three versions of the same shambler, and they all sound the same and look the same excepting a lick of paint. - Sound also suffers, the 'weight' of your blows is all visual, …

A striking 2.5D Sci-Fi Action RPG with incredible atmosphere. It’s a narrative-heavy trip through a corrupted colony ship that feels both haunting and tactical. Major Update: One of my early frustrations was the fixed difficulty, but the devs have added the ability to change difficulty settings mid-game through the menu. This is a huge improvement that lets you adjust the challenge without losing your progress—perfect if you want to focus more on the story or Sister Zola's unique abilities. Went into 2nd EVE without huge expectations and ended up getting pulled in much more than I thought I would. The biggest strength for me is the atmosphere. It really nails that eerie, isolated sci-fi horror vibe — not just visually, but through sound and pacing as well. It feels like you're exploring a place where something went very wrong, and that tension stays with you. Combat took a little time to click, but once it did, it became one of the most satisfying parts. It’s not button-mashy — you actually need to learn patterns and be deliberate, which makes each fight feel earned. There’s a nice balance between challenge and progression. Also, the concept is just cool. Playing as a cybernetic battle nun in a collapsing space setting is such a weird mix, but it works and gives the game a strong identity. For Early Access, it already feels quite polished, and you can tell there’s a clear vision behind it. If you’re into sci-fi horror, story-driven experiences, and light souls-like combat, this is definitely worth your time. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves.

While I'm not a super fan of side scrollers I have to admit that 2nd Eve is extremely fun to play. I love the clean and effective skill system and the satisfying combat system. The atmosphere is captivating and the story interesting. It might be rough around some edges but for a team of two developers, this is a fantastic achievement. All in all, a very fun game at a more than fair price. Congrats to the team and I just can wait for the full release.

2nd EVE is particularly impressive. The dark atmosphere of lonely space, an ark lost somewhere in hyperspace, is accompanied by a dynamic musical score that immediately sets the tone. The plot is a mystery you'll want to unravel. The game offers choices that influence gameplay and add variety. The combat system is easy to learn but requires an individual approach to each enemy type, creating a variety of situations. A tremendous amount of work has been done since the demo's release, and the game has gotten better and better with each update. I'm definitely looking forward to the release!

⭐⭐ out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐. It boots up and runs without crashing, so it gets more than one star. It feels bad to move and fight from the jump. Few games have made me question my purchase within the first minute of playtime, but this one managed to nail that pretty much immediately. Feels like they opened a game blueprint in Unreal engine and thought "good enough."
