If you like space fighter sims and roguelites then you'll probably like this game. I hear the sequel is even better. There's an over arching story line that tells you who you are and what you need to do. But you can do what you want flying around. I like it. Also it seems that it runs on proton for linux with little fuss.1 found this helpful
What more can you ask from a game? Its got ships, space, explosions...rage filled moments. WHO CAN ASK FOR MORE!?
As someone who significantly enjoys roguelike games with permanent upgrades that carry over and make runs easier, I've been hooked on this! With it being a roguelike, yes it is very repetitive. Think of it as a sci-fi space Hades game. After playing the base game without any DLCs, I'm 50/50 on recommending the Encounters DLC from the get go. It definitely breaks up the repetitiveness, but was a nice addition after my 40+ runs of lather, rinse, repeat. I purchased the DLC towards the end of the main story aspects (currently on run 60+), and having extra side stories, random encounters, and tasks after a while really brought back the energy to continue playing! Although Everspace 2 seems less rogue-like from the demo and reviews, I've still purchased it with all DLCs as my next grind. The developers truly made something special with this series! Plus, the idea of a persistent playthrough and open world seems like a perfect switch after playing enough of the original!
Very good space shooter if you are into the rogue lite approach. Technically brilliant. Mechanics are limited to rogue lite. You have to be willing to grind to some extent to advance. ES2 is different from that. Both games are very good if you are into space shooters. In the end, play both, they are worth your time.
After playing Galaxy on fire as a kid on my dads Ipad, I was looking for something similar. The premise was good but the roguelike ruined it for me.
I bought this game because I had severe withdrawal from Freelancer / Starlancer series. Now, Everspace is not like either of these games, but I found that it scratches that particular itch quite adequately nonetheless. You get to shoot stuff, you get to mine asteroids, you get to interact with some NPCs on your way to an almost certain death — it's pretty fun! Of course, this is first and foremost a roguelike in space, so you have to enjoy roguelikes for this game to shine long-term. The progress doesn't feel very quick, but I am not particularly good at it either; as such I primarily play Everspace as a filler game, maybe a run or two when I have some time and don't fancy something else.
