Max Manos 2 is an incremental game where you hover over enemies to kill them to obtain money to upgrade yourself so you can survive longer and more dangerous levels, basic stuff really. However unlike Max Manos 1 which I'd consider one of the best Incremental games I've played (and I've played quite a few at this point) Max Manos 2 somehow is a downgrade in pretty much every imaginable metric: -Music is worse -Sound effects are worse -Although the detail in the things you destroy are higher they look kinda ugly compared to the simple shapes of MM1 -The upgrades don't feel impactful and it barely felt rewarding to go up in levels, the way MM1 did it with having a boss at the end of every level was a lot better IMO -The small attempts of a story kinda felt hollow to me and it bothered me a suprising amount how the tower was infested by ""pirates"" when none of the little critters had even the vaquest look of a pirate outside of the final boss itself If you enjoyed MM1 you might get some mileage out of this but just be mindful that the experience is notably worse. Only buy at a sale.

I found the first part alright, but this one just feels like the dev gave up in the middle of polishing. The upgrades sometimes work, sometimes they don't, and the abilities are even less creative than placeholder names and signs. Most of them are in the vein of "further increases strenght/speed/whatever" I don't know what's going on with the dev and this title, but I found the storyline a compelling enough upgrade from the first one, but the half-baked implementation of gameplay, just doesn't do it justice. I'd skip this one. Edit to add: 12hrs, because the game was opened while I was afk.

Max Manos really did not need a sequel... The original game was already pretty much feature complete with little room for improvement, and it seems that the developer has found that out the hard way, as low and behold, there is no improvement to be found in the second game. TL;DR: If you haven't played the first game yet, you should stop reading this review and go and look at the first Max Manos instead. Max Manos 2 is inferior is just about all aspects compared to the first game, and the original Max Manos is actually a very respectable incremental. As for why Max Manos 2 is worse than the original, it mainly comes down to a combination of there being nothing to really innovate on, and doubling down on the weaknesses the original game already had. Starting with the first point, the original Max Manos was based on a pretty neat and interesting concept, which was expanded from a simple demo around chain reactions between various shapes into a fully fledged incremental game. It was a pretty good incremental overall, but that was mostly off of the innate merit of the concept, combined with the very well polished graphics and presentation. The execution of the incremental part of t…

honestly the ending portion is a let down, the 180+ rounds with near max upgrades are heavily rng based to complete requiring a random bonus room in order to retain enough health to reach the checkpoints only for the final boss to either not die to max upgrades (barring one) or require you do get that rng roll to take advantage of the scaling damage upgrade, and then the final upgrade trivialises the boss. i don't mind incramentals that are incredibly hard without good rng, hell i don't mind ones that are impossible without max upgrades. but if you're going to make the ending easy allow me to finish without maxing out, or if you're going to force me to max out make it satisfying to do so instead of just multiplying the cash on the final floor so i can buy the mittens easily, just seems like a really clunky way to end a game imo.
