DED is a short 2D shoot em up that keeps things very simple. I play as an older man who is trying to find his kidnapped granddaughter after his daughter and son in law are murdered. The story gives the shooting a bit more purpose than I expected from such a small game, even though it is still mainly about moving through levels and dealing with enemies. I like that it gets straight into the action instead of spending a long time explaining everything. The shooting itself is easy to understand but surprisingly demanding. I move around the levels, avoid attacks and use different weapons to deal with the enemies in front of me. The game has a fast pace and I have to stay focused because getting careless can quickly get me killed. I like this kind of old school design because there is not much between me and the actual gameplay. I can start playing almost immediately and spend my time learning enemy patterns and getting better at surviving. The pixel art also fits the game nicely.
