I set my eyes on this hidden gem, when I played the demo. This game is really well done, especially for early access. Seldom do you find games with that special something and this one has it. Midnight study requires not only strategic thinking but also timing and thus a run never gets boring, because you need to learn every pattern of your floating charms. It is so satisfying when you pull that perfect shot, and clean the field. The enemies are well done, some of them are really challenging. The boses are surprisingly balanced, I never felt punished just for existing, and they felt like an actual threat. If I were to suggest something I would definitely add more schoolgirls, since you can never have enough of them, especially since this game happens at school. I will update my review when I'll play some more, but now I felt obligated to write this one, because of the low amount of them (only 25!!!), and the developer is worthy of some more :D3 found this helpful
I have been really enjoying this game. The gameplay is fun as it is very satisfying managing to line up a shot that hits a large number of charms floating above you to throw out lots of attacks while protecting and buffing yourself. Throwing a challenging wrench into that fun are the enemies who will hurt if you ignore their gameplay affecting abilities. I like the charms you build your deck with as there is a great variety of them with none feelling useless just suited to different playstyles. And being able to upgrade the charms is really helpful since it usually doubles a charm's effectiveness and the relics offer some great benefits. There isn't much of story and overall is not really scary but is certainly creepy and quite detailed. Especially the enemies which are apparently all based on real Korean mythological beings. The backgrounds and music do a good job adding to that. Looking forward to what future updates added to the game. So if you feel interested or curious give the demo a try.1 found this helpful
So far the game is solid and gives a really fun twist on your average deck building game. The geometry and weapon classes effecting how your turn plays out and adding a little more skill to actually using your cards is well done and unique enough to make this game worth picking up. It is in early access, but the core game is good enough to pick up and play for a while. I am excited to see what the developers do with new characters and cards. If you like deck building games I think this one is worth checking out.1 found this helpful
Ever since I played the demo, I have been sold on the game. I love the spin on the deck building that Midnight Study uses. It's such a unique idea. I, personally, love deck building games and the premise of this one made it a game worth playing. I play solely on the steamdeck and would love it if the devs could find a way to give at least partial controller support. I think it would just enhance the gameplay and make more combos possible. Regardless, this is a good game and a blast to play.1 found this helpful
I love slay the spire type of games. I have several of those games like Touhou lost branch, phantom mancer, yohane the parhelion, and some more. This game is the closest to the format of slay the spire, which makes love this game more. You guys are in the right track. Bugs i found: - some descriptions are still korean letterings. - i cannot scroll down my deck (can't pull up to view my other cards) (that's on steam deck - i didn't try on pc yet). Additions idea: - voices, i'd love to hear some Korean school girl voices, is that bad? - as their hp goes down, maybe show it in their hurt faces and ripped clothes. - i finished the game, maybe add a "continue exploring spirit world at the end". Edit: Abyss was good. Also, will there be deeper story other than escaping the spirit word?
I tried the demo, and while it’s definitely a horror game, it’s really not that scary. What surprised me the most was the variety of ghosts you run into. I didn’t expect there to be this many different types, and it actually made the game a lot more interesting. Even though the main character is a high school girl, what really kept me engaged was the ghosts themselves. I found myself wondering about the story behind each one. Now I’m genuinely curious to see what kinds of spirits will show up as I progress through each stage. It’s the kind of game that keeps you playing just to see what’s waiting around the next corner.
