About Patron

✦ AI summary

Build a thriving medieval city while managing complex social dynamics—where every policy decision on immigration, religion, and taxation directly impacts individual citizen happiness and can spark unforeseen consequences. Balance resource production chains, technological research, and political tensions as you transform a struggling settlement into a prosperous society that must weather both natural disasters and the competing demands of your diverse population.

Patron builds upon the foundations laid out by the staples of the survival city builder genre and enhances the experience with a large research tree and by introducing intricate social dynamics into the game and the genre in general. Happiness, the standard simple feature of all such games, in the case of Patron is a complete gameplay system in its own right.

Patron starts off similarly to other games in the genre, but then veers off exploring social intricacies and what it means to truly run a society and not just a city filled with automatons.

Each individual citizen in the town has their needs, desires and issues troubling them or making them happy. Some citizens are more concerned with immigration, while others are more aggravated by tax-related issues. If the citizen’s view on the subject is in line with what the town government (YOU, the player) is doing, they will be happy. Works the other way around as well.

CONSTRUCT AND UPGRADE

To make the best of the opportunities in this new land, you will need to construct residential houses, farms, production plants, manufacturing buildings and dozens of other buildings needed to harvest the riches of the land.

BALANCE SENSITIVE SOCIAL ISSUES

Every decision you make as Patron will be met with different reactions from different social groups. You'll need real political talent to balance sensitive matters as religion, immigration, loyalty, poverty... Whatever you choose to do can lead to unforeseen consequences years later.

ADAPT TO WEATHER AND SEASONS

Managing your tasks and citizens in a timely and efficient manner allows you to prepare and adapt to external variables like harsh weather or different seasons.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOP FOR THE FUTURE

The world is changing and you must make sure you're advancing at the proper pace. Only by constant advancing and research will your society be able to stand the test of time.

TRAGEDY ALWAYS LURKS

No matter what you do, unexpected tragedies can always strike your people. They will look to you for protection and help.

ENJOY THE GOOD SIDE OF LIFE

People also need external signs of their success. Build and arrange numerous beautification elements of your city, and make sure everyone is rewarded for their hard work.

KEY FEATURES

TLDR: A middling city builder Transparency: I have played this game for over 31 hours and their is so much I haven't see, so take that into account with my review. ---Positives-- Depth: This game has some surprising depth. It might have one of the best tech trees I have seen in a game. You have so many buildings in the game. Soundtrack; The soundtrack is really good. it's one of the few city builders where I actually didn't turn it off. The soundtrack makes you feel like you are in the times, Difficulty: I love the difficulty options and if you're looking for a game than can challenge you, this one can. Performance.: Game ran great with no stutters of fps drops. Mod Supports It does have a few mods, though not extensive. I would recommend the slower tech tree mod as tech learning is way too fast in the game. ---Negatives-- Graphic Aesthetics; This game, unfortunately is not a game that has age well by looks. I liked the building designs but wasn't a fan of the maps or the trees. The trees look cheap. This game looks like it was mad 15-20 years ago. The color palette choice adds to the dated look as well. Animations; This game really lacks what most modern city builders…

I hope I am wrong but the game seems to use generative AI for it's story-mode 'characters' and their voices... its rather obvious... and I wish they were more transparent with this - I would never have bought it if I knew.... This was really disappointing and I had to stop playing it. I thought it had some great potential too... it would need ironing out to make it an excellent city-builder but the low-effort characters really spoil it. I would rather see stick men drawn on Paint...

Best settlement game since Banished. Hard to find well balanced, not overwhelming or too simplified, with challenging issues still.

population growth control needed, the game becomes unplayable as you need to build houses every five minutes. I'm not playing it again
