Upsettingly bad art direction, unfunny dialogue, voice acting so bad it horseshoes twice around to being bad again, and music that is.... fine..... Like, if this game didn't come out 10 years ago, I'd be suspicious it was AI generated. Not because it's slop, just because it's.... fine.... All of the above would be forgivable if the mechanics of the game didn't also grate. Button combinations are annoying to execute with the control layout options available. Tracking enemies' elemental types is a distraction. The XP system is gratuitous and makes the game feel like a chore.

Some good music in here, and I found the overall conceit to be really charming! But I have three major issues with this game: First, engaging the elemental systems requires looking at the monsters on the right side of the screen, and that means taking your eyes off of the notes that need to be watched and hit accurately. Second, this is a music-driven game but not a music-reactive game. That is a design choice and not a flaw as such, but for me personally it makes a rhythm game far less fun when nothing I do has any influence on what I am hearing. Third, the DLC is disconnected from your RPG progression, and the core gameplay in those songs isn’t engaging enough to make up for that lack of integration. They would have been much more appealing if they tied into the existing reward loop. Finally, though this isn't a major issue since I found some workarounds, gamepad support in this game is flaky.

Great game, if you have rhythm, but I have two left legs...

Probably one of the best rhythm games I've played in a long time. The mix of the RPG elements in the combat with the rhythm of the songs themselves feels so well done, I found myself playing some songs again and again just trying to get the highest scores I can. If you like rhythm games, please give this game a try, I loved it.
