The idea/concept of this game is great but it is poorly executed. The features that are meant make the gameplay unique just ends up making things tedious and boring.

Playing to the beat doesn't feel good

A decently fun music-themed dungeon crawler, with procedurally built maps so you'll be seeing repeat arenas / structures fairly often. The real draw for me was the custom music importing, but that's only relegated for bonus arcade-style grinding, and the import often struggles. I've had some work perfectly, but most either have broken enemy spawning leaving you trapped in a box for a good few minutes, or the metronome is broken and speeds up or slows down whenever it struggles to dynamically place the beat. It's cool that they allow for songs which might speed up or slow down, but all the songs I have don't do that. So it ends up being more of a detriment than a feature. I think my biggest game-design critique would be is that the enemies (at least in the first zone) seem to lack consistency in their tells. Some use a visual (!) symbol which gives exactly a one beat telegraph, some have a 2-beat auditory queue, and one big guy has neither - just a visual animation of it raising its legs to telegraph that its attack is going to be on the next beat. Then these telegraphs fall apart if your spacing is midrange, because you want to dodge on the beat but the floating bullet isn't locke…

Fun for the first hour or two, the rhythm based combat is entertaining enough. Even though you unlock a couple of new characters after that, the gameplay does not change much. You have your weapon, special attack, dash/dodge and ultimate. Those are your tools for the remaining 10+ hours the story mode takes to complete, which is way too long. Nothing new is added, levels are recycled heavily, the loot is boring and story is one of the most tedious ones I can remember. Even though some of the songs are enjoyable to listen, they might not be a great for the gameplay, having sections with no clear beat or even containing silent sections. Additional challenge for those who want to see if they can carry that beat over, I guess. I played it co-op, which added some minor annoyances, such as a cramped inventory management and similar looking heroes that are easy to mix up during the action. I can't really recommend this game, unless you're desperate for a rhythm action game. One of the most boring games I have played through.

I am a music nerd and theater kid, so the concept for this game intrigued me deeply from the beginning. A rhythm based shooter? While it sounds complicated and difficult, it's really not. If you already have a good sense of rhythm (or the steady beat, as my elementary school music teacher would put it) then you're good to go. The soundtrack is BALLER AS HELL. I've got several songs from it stuck in my head as I'm typing this. I also imagine the ability to import your own music to be really fun and interesting, but I play mostly on my steam deck so I haven't really used that feature. Soundfall has so much love and passion put into it, and it shows. Absolutely check this one out if you want to shake it up a little bit.

Amazing songs. The Song Packs 1,2 and 3 are all new songs. I highly recommend you to play them with extrem difficulty and in arena mode. There are some bugs here and there and a story that is ehmmm yeah, there. Just for the sake of having a story, I guess. 10/10 for the price I paid. 1,5€ or so.
