What Steam players say

Players appreciate Rhythm Fighter's inventive fusion of rhythm mechanics with side-scrolling combat and its charming art style, with some finding it a compelling experience for rhythm game enthusiasts. However, common complaints include the strict rhythm timing requirements that make it difficult to execute actions, repetitive gameplay due to limited enemy variety and slow progression, unforgiving difficulty spikes especially in boss fights, and the roguelike structure becoming monotonous once upgrades are exhausted after a few hours.
Surprisingly a very interesting game, it’s similar to Necrodancer in combat but in other aspects it’s a way different game. I really recommend it for people that enjoy rhythm games where a lot is going on2 found this helpful

Rhythm Fighter is an inventive indie title that boldly fuses rhythm-game mechanics with side-scrolling brawler combat and roguelike progression, resulting in an experience that feels both unconventional and surprisingly cohesive. Developed by echo games and published by Coconut Island Games, Rhythm Fighter immediately distinguishes itself through its commitment to music as a core gameplay pillar rather than a decorative backdrop. From the outset, the game makes it clear that success is not just about reflexes or raw button-mashing, but about learning to move, attack, and react in harmony with the beat, turning every encounter into a kind of kinetic dance. The game’s premise is intentionally absurd and playful, leaning into a cartoonish tone that complements its rhythm-driven design. Players take on the role of animal fighters resurrected to stop a villain who has corrupted vegetables with sinister beat energy, setting the stage for a series of colorful and chaotic encounters. This lighthearted narrative framing doesn’t overstay its welcome, instead acting as a charming excuse to throw players into a world filled with expressive characters, exaggerated enemies, and stages that feel…1 found this helpful
Can only do anything on a downbeat1 found this helpful
A rhythm game where you move and hit needs to be on the beats. Not great but playable. The good part is... the cute art style I guess. You control a cat, a rabbit, and later a dog, a tiger... Yeah. Nothing else special. And you get to choose the next room, but you don’t know where the boss is located. Your character levels up slowly, unlocking new heroes is slow, saving coins to buy new equipment is hard. Enemy types are limited, the first carrot enemy can be seen in every level, only differing in the health bar and attack power. Prepare to die a lot - you can only go straight forward or straight back, and even with manual corrections the rhythm is still hard to hit perfectly. Later, even the weakest enemy needs to be hit ~10 times to go down. The boss fights are too hard compared to the earlier areas, like the Devs don’t want you to go any further. If you’re interested, get it on a big sale. My curator page
Fun game, but because it is a rougelite it got repetitive real quick. After 4 hours I had unlocked all the meaningful upgrades and it became boring. I got it with a humble bundle, so I would definitely wait on a sale for this one.
