PROS - Interesting concept and setting. - Attractive pixel-art visuals. - Great music. - Potentially enjoyable combat concept. CONS - Very limited checkpoint and progression system. - Difficulty relies heavily on memorizing enemy patterns. - Controls feel unresponsive. - Input lag makes combos difficult to execute. - Limited range of actions makes combat feel restrictive. - Hardcore difficulty feels unnecessary rather than rewarding. - Repeating sections after failure can become frustrating. VERDICT Cybarian: The Time Travelling Warrior feels like a good setting and idea killed by bad controls and an unnecessarily restrictive combat system. I really wanted to enjoy what the game was going for, and I think its visual style and music are genuinely good, but the gameplay made that difficult. The limited actions, input lag, lack of meaningful checkpoints, and reliance on memorizing enemy patterns made the difficulty feel more frustrating than satisfying. For me, a game can absolutely be challenging, but I want that challenge to come from mastering the game's mechanics, not from fighting the controls and repeating the same sections until I've memorized every enemy patt…

Cybarian has a cool retro style, but the gameplay feels stiff and repetitive. The combat can be frustrating, and the difficulty often feels more annoying than rewarding. It has some decent ideas, but overall I lost interest pretty quickly.

The auto-combo mechanic makes me want to break my controller! This game is funking garbage! AND they ripped off Gunstar Heroes. They STOLE the sound effects! Horrible game...

If you're a fan of platformers, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a shot — but wait for a sale! The core gameplay has its moments, but the controls feel pretty stiff and unresponsive at times, which can make some sections more frustrating than fun. Still, if you enjoy the genre and can grab it at a discount, it's worth a try.

Cybarian: The Time Travelling Warrior is a beautifully stylized love letter to the arcade era that brilliantly injects modern combat depth into a nostalgic wrapper. Controlling a cyber-warrior thrust into a neon-soaked dystopian future, you are instantly hooked by the gorgeous, detailed pixel art and a high-energy chiptune soundtrack that drives the action forward. What truly elevates this title above generic action-platformers is its rhythm-based combat system; button-mashing actively punishes you with animation stalls, forcing you to master precise, timed combos that make every sword swing feel incredibly impactful. While it leans into tough-as-nails arcade difficulty, the lightning-fast controls always feel entirely fair, and conquering the creative, multi-phase boss battles delivers a massive rush of satisfaction.
