Cyberia 2: Resurrection

This is one of my favourites all time futuristic games ever. It's nice to play Cyberia 2/Cyberia again. I always recommend.

Cyberpunk 1994 - one of the first CD-ROM games and one of the first to combine computer animations and Hollywood film technique to form visually stunning graphics and cut scene.

The main inspiration behind the "Xitilon" name is the "Xatrix" (game developer company) name, which I saw in this game some 25-ish years ago. Never played the first one, but maybe someday. Not an immediately bad game, but aged poorly - what I thought was my lousy aim turned out to be just poor controls of the game itself, and in 2025 it begs for a proper 60FPS remaster (which of course we'll never get due to the game's obscurity). Would still recommend for the cyber vibes.

Never got to play the sequel in the 90's, so I got it now. Ultimately disappointed though for several reasons: [list] [*]There are single-scene puzzles and rail-shooter type action sequences, very little of the "walk around and look for stuff" gameplay from Cyberia 1. [*]The VR-style filesystem/directory navigation was very confusing; I didn't even realize what it was or what I should be doing first. I guess some people had dreams that this kind of computer navigation would be "the future", but overall it's very annoying as you have to wait to get to the node you need to traverse. In the future, we can tell why a VR-only OS didn't ever catch on. [*]It's technically impossible to shoot all of the enemies, so it feels more overwhelming and less like a memorization/skill challenge. [*]The game leaned in way too hard into 70's/80's Alpha-Male-vs-Butch-Feminist conversation tropes, to the point it was just sad; none of the characters had any amount of depth, and it was such a missed opportunity. [/list] If you liked the first game, just remember it fondly as it was and skip this one.

A real retro game that took me to my infancy, now is easier than I remebered, took me 3 hours to finish it. Never been able to get the soundtrack, specially the one from the car tunnel sequence.
