Awesome artstyle but its sadly the definition of mid, nothing quite captured my attention and the story was boring

“Hey who left this bowl of onions here?” - Squidward Tentacles I really enjoyed my time with this game. I understand that the style of gameplay and writing may not be for everyone, but it absolutely landed for me. Despite its highly emotional subject matter, it never comes off as “sappy” or melodramatic which is what makes all the characters and their situations feel so real. The ending… ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. That was straight up the first game ever to make me cry. Then again I did get the perfect ending, for which you need to find all the memories of Cinta which are in really non-obvious places so you’ll basically have to use a guide to find them all in a first playthrough, This is a game with a lot of heart, very cute and expressive character designs, a fantastic soundtrack that really grounds its identity, and isn’t too long if you want something quick to playthrough. Just… don’t play it too soon after losing a loved one, it might hit a tad too hard.

First of all, I have to say that I might be a bit biased when writing this review. I am in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend from Indonesia and I feel a very special connection with him when I play this game. Being able to recognise some of the things they say (like when Cinta mentions Indomie, or Cinta's name also, which means "love" in Indonesian) helps enjoying more this game. That aside, I really like the art they used. it is quite simple and very enjoyable. The music is also very good. I like to go from one place to another listenning to the different themes, and also the ones you play with the guitar or your band mates. The fact that you can choose if you want to have another love interest or not gives a nice replayability. In my case, I chose Satria, and I could see very interesting situations happening. It was specially interesting because in my playthrough Rama is straight, but through his interactions with Satria he finds a new side of him he never thought about. Also, through this path something happens that is very real in the daily life of LGBT people in Indonesia. I really, REALLY wish there was a "neutral" option for reviews. Overall, I did enjoy the game, and I do think it's worth it to play for yourself to form your own opinions, but there are some major gripes I have that took me out of the experience. First, I'll list the thinks I DID like! -Lovely post-rock soundtrack, melancholic without being too dour. "Temu Hilang" in particular was absolutely gorgeous -Very charming art style! Simple and sketchy with soft colors, gives the vibe of something right out of a sketchbook -While not *perfect*, I think the topic of grief was tackled fairly well. After Cinta's passing, Rama and their mutual friends all mourn in their own ways, and sometimes, it gets messy, i.e. Rama isolating himself for a year. (Again, though, it isn't perfect, and does tie in to one of my main issues...) Now... the things I took issue with. -Cinta's voice. I guess I can understand why she's the only character with an actual voice, highlighting how she's just a voice in Rama's head, but it got old REAL fast, especially since her quips felt more grating than charming. Very Visual, Very Novel. A narrative-heavy game with some lighter dating and rhythm elements, but the former is very strong. I got it shortly after my dog passed, I like to think it helped me reflect on her. An emotional venture into memories and how people process grief, with a warm and gentle artstyle and soundtrack combo.
