Tested on Humans: Escape Room

When the walkthrough can't even explain how to get to the answer, you know something has gone wrong Tested on Humans: Escape Room is an escape room simulator that has a lot of enjoyable puzzles, but there are enough puzzles that simply cannot be explained to be worth working through. I'm a big fan of escape room games. I love the feeling of finding clues, working out puzzles, and escaping the little puzzle room I've been locked in. The real joy of this comes from the "click" moment, where suddenly I understand what's being asked of me and I input the answer, unlocking the reward. There are a number of puzzles in this game that achieve this feeling, but there are also a large number of puzzles that, even after learning the answer, I have ZERO clue how you were supposed to come to that answer. Even after using the built in hints in the game AND the official walkthrough, the answer was completely inscrutable as to how you were supposed to figure it out. I don't know if this is due to cultural differences, translation issues, or simply poor puzzle design, but near the end of the game, about half of the puzzles simply did not have solutions that I could ever expect someone …

I have very mixed feelings about this game. I should point out that, unlike some other negative reviews which say the puzzles make no sense, that’s not my experience. The puzzles do make sense, even if they’re sometimes rather convoluted... The puzzles are really poorly balanced. Some are so disconcertingly simple that you find yourself thinking "Is that it?", and on several occasions I wasted time looking for more elaborate solutions because the answer couldn’t possibly be that simple… well, actually it was (for example, finding a sequence of four folders of different colours on a shelf). And if I did look for more complicated solutions, it’s because other puzzles are significantly more difficult. Where I really struggled was with the consistency between the clues and their corresponding puzzles. One clue in particular corresponded to a puzzle I’d spent ages on, only to realise it was linked to another puzzle. And conversely, a clue in the next room (which was inaccessible) corresponded to the puzzle I was currently working on. But none of this justifies a negative review, as I admit that it was me who lacked perspective (even if the game didn’t go out of its way to be any clea…

Cool premise, good graphics and UI. However, truly some of the worst and misleading puzzles I have ever played from this publisher.

Boring.

Overall a nice game with mostly logical puzzles. However, some were confusing even when knowing the solution, such as the cabinets/fire box 4x4 row/column symbols in the guard room that had no logic except for what the dev decided that particular solution should be. In the same guard room was a puzzle which require skills in Rubik's clock puzzles which I hated, 'cause you had to think always many steps ahead. It made me end up looking up the solution online. Not really a game for total beginners but it's a doable challenge with plenty aha moments. A few tips to approach it: It constantly requires you to simply take a still moment and step back of what the puzzle requires of you. And often the solution is best achieved when NOT overthinking.
