Promising foundation, but not yet ready for escape room and puzzle‑adventure fans
The Lab has the bones of a great escape room or point‑and‑click puzzle adventure, but in its current form I can’t fully recommend it for fans of the genre. Much like the initial launch of House of Tesla (which the developers later improved dramatically based on user feedback), this game feels one solid revision away from becoming something special. I went in cautiously after playing The Island, which shares similar issues. The Lab is certainly better—but it still suffers from similar design decision problems.
Where the game shines
Imaginative, interesting and decently rendered spaces, and generally good puzzles - some actually very clever and innovative.
Where the game struggles
The biggest issue, echoed by several players, is that a number of puzzles are needlessly obtuse. The concepts themselves are clever and could be great fun, but the game offers only a complex instance of the most innovative puzzles along with no context, no progressive learning, and a hint system that is so arcane it’s nearly useless. The result is a mix of dir…
An escape room game. No story to speak of and puzzles which were just fine. If you want to binge some short escape room games go for it. Score: 5/9 EDIT: Forgot the score.
Nice escape room with a couple of inventive puzzles which require attention and reasoning efforts. Recommended for all the fans of this genre!
Great fun! Loved the puzzles and the story!
Loved it! Juuuuuuust hard enough where there were a couple things that had me scratching my head so that I walked away and came back fresh.
If you’re looking for an escape room experience with a strong sci-fi vibe, this game delivers. The puzzles strike a good balance between clever and approachable, making progress feel satisfying without veering into frustration. The lab environment is atmospheric and does a lot to set the mood, maintaining just the right tension as you work through each challenge. With a couple of hours played, it’s clear the game is well-paced and keeps you engaged from one puzzle to the next. Recommended for escape room fans and anyone who likes unraveling mysteries in a futuristic setting.
