About Kimmy

Kimmy is a visual novel style game about a summer spent babysitting in late 1960s Massachusetts. You play as Dana, who stumbles across Kimmy--a tiny girl wandering around alone in her neighborhood. Dana decides to take Kimmy under her wing, worried that she's having trouble making friends, and decides to be her babysitter. Let summer begin! Collect trinkets, play street games, and learn more and more about Kimmy and her mysterious family as summer passes by.

Features:
  • A dialogue rich story that takes place over the course of 5 acts.
  • Over 10 characters to chat with and get to know throughout the story.
  • A painterly art-style brings the characters to life, including multiple illustrated cut scenes.
  • An intimate story about childhood, honesty and growing up.

Recommendations and Notes
  • A single play through takes about 2 to 3 hours.
  • Play multiple times to see all of the conversations.
  • Headphones are recommended.

Content warning:

Kimmy is a game about childhood, but it does address some more serious issues and is primarily intended for adults. There are conversations between the characters about things like death, profanities and alcohol. Please consider this before playing this game with younger kids.

Going in for a short game I'd get over with in an hour and a half or so, it all began with a bit of a wholesome aesthetic. I thought I had this VN pinned down in the first few minutes, but damn, was I so wrong. I did not imagine I would be so moved at the end. Dialogue is surprisingly engaging, a story about kids playing freely while the adult world holds them at bay. You need to explain the *right* rules of every game you tell a character you'd like to play, which seems like a disconnected mechanic at first. But those rules are boundaries, short and swift explorations of bonds, an introduction to socialization. It's sort of a parallel inversion of the adult world, completely full of rules that no one explains, weird and complicated, their lack of transparecy a motive for anger and sadness among the kids. But they play, and in that moment, they understand each other, and whatever the grown-ups think is irrelevant.

Cute typical visual novel game with a few choices that can be made. Hand drawn art is adorable. No replay ability. Suitable for younger audience. The music was lovely, and the character building was wonderful too. I learned about some new games I never knew the rules to haha. The end go dark, and I was moved. Cute game.

Pros - Cozy artstyle - Charming characters and dialog - Poignant story - Entirely playable with mouse. - Some replayability Cons - You buy toys and you choose the rules to play games but you don't actually play games. I think the developers missed a trick here for not implementing some mini-games. Overall recomended.

This is a really well presented, heartfelt story. The game starts off a bit slow but the narrative picks up pace fairly quickly. The setting is very convincing with all cultural practices and social issues hinted at/discussed adding to the authenticity.
