This world war themed, wave defense shooter is a commendable effort for a mobile game, but unfortunately, lacks any complexity, variety, or meaningful progression. It's scheduled to go offline in November, and quite frankly, not worth your time.

Pros

Nine ships to collect
Persistent upgrades
Rogue-lite powerups (per level up in each stage)
Environmental variety
No P2W paywall that prevents progression

Cons

No tangible difference between the ships
No tangible difference between enemy types or damage received
The random powerups aren't equally meaningful
Low poly graphics, looping stages after two dozen
Bugs and glitches that trivialize the game
On one hand, Coast Defender is a passable arcade game that's clearly designed to be fair for touchscreen players, but unfortunately, feels cheap and shallow for a PC experience. The ballistic physics provide a modicum of challenge, but are easily adapted for with precision mouse control. Despite having nine ships, there's no cannon variety. Whilst there's some variety in enemy types, they all shoot the same bullets, deal the same damage…

Coast Defender delivers a straightforward military action experience centered on defending territory against an assortment of hostile vehicles approaching from land, sea, and air. Developed by SecretLab and published by Matryoshka, the game favors accessible arcade-style combat rather than complicated military simulation. Its premise is immediately understandable: locate incoming threats, destroy them before they become overwhelming, survive the engagement, and gradually improve your fighting capabilities. This simplicity makes the game easy to approach, although it also establishes clear limits on how deep its combat systems eventually become. The main attraction is the variety of military hardware encountered throughout the campaign. Enemy forces can include tanks, helicopters, aircraft, ships, and other combat machines, requiring players to shift their attention between very different targets. Ground vehicles create more traditional exchanges of fire, while airborne enemies demand faster tracking and good accuracy. Naval opponents add another dimension to the battles and reinforce the idea that the player is defending an important coastal position rather than participating in o…

Good for a brief dumb time waster. Not anything you should spend any actual money on. Not much enemy variety, the upgrades aren't that interesting, and enemies phase in and out of existence. At least your homing missiles will alter course midair to change to where the enemy reappears instead of going to waste. I have no idea why anyone would want to unlock additional ships, they don't change how the game plays at all. They just change the graphics of the ship that you see if your turret is depressed enough.
Warning: Microtransaction infested mobile app
Coast Defender is one of thousands of nasty mobile apps infesting the "free" section of Steam, but it's not really free. There's only a superficial "game" here. This mobile app (Coast Defender - Blitz War on the app stores, if you're looking for a bad time) is a garbage WW2 themed minigame with rather crappy assets and bad graphics for a mobile scam. The gameplay is very limited and pointless, basic static shooting which you accomplish by tapping away at your iPhone screen. There's nothing of value here. It's just a veneer wrapped around a nasty, predatory mobile app cash shop. It's simple, it's free, it's low res, it's blatantly a port of a mobile game, complete with egregious premium currency microtransaction options (although PC is earnable incredibly slowly for free) and "Watch ads for a boost" mechanics, but like...yeah, I mean, it's alright. Would be nice to be able to bulk-open lootboxes quicker, rather than one at a time with the animation each time.
