Gunman Contracts - Stand Alone

Early access review, played with Stream Frame. It's very clear that this game is inspired by a lifetime of good action movies and quality video games. Clearly comparisons to John Wick will be made, and well deserved. I've had Gun Kata moments from equilibrium, slow motion reveals from Bad Boys, lots of guns from The Matrix, moodiness from Max Payne, and sneaky kills of Hitman. The gunplay is incredibly satisfying. The pistols pack and punch and the shotguns are real room clearers. There's good visual feedback - bullet wounds look great on the various neck tie wearing security goons. Both single and dual wielding are viable options and quite satisfying in a crowded hallway. It's early access, so I'll grant the game some leeway on its length. There are 3 missions currently, averaging 20-30 minutes per mission. Each mission also unlocks 2 challenge areas (the meat of the game) where you can customize number and difficulty of the enemies. Level design is veryatmospheric, and the HL:Alyx engine really enables some solid immersion. There's a strong moodiness to everything, enabled by good artistic direction and strong lighting. Game could be good but still missing a lot of stuff, the gun handling and taking guns from ground etc don't work as well as other VR games, AI is not that great I felt like it is not a gun fight more like they just spawn to hold you off etc and they really spawn like I look to the corner empty the next second guy is running at me there, the main thing that feels hard in this game is just ammo count for me. the kills don't feel that great to me as well I like VR games becase it lets me immerse myself into it but in this when I shoot a guy I don't feel that it is not exciting and sometimes just frustration.

VR version is still super rough. If you want another power fantasy, I guess this is for you. Gameplay is a joke on normal. Seriously, you don't even have to aim, enemies aren't remotely dangerous, you can go for a stroll through the levels and point a gun in their general direction. Performance is mixed (3080TI on the Index for reference), really choppy when moving. Controls are awful, constantly grabbing holstered items, holsters constantly become unaligned to your body, quick reload is immensely unreliable and grabbing a mag is not as reliable as it should be. Final straw was when one of my hands glitched through the basement door simply trying to pull the handle when the bomb was gonna goin the first house. Couldn't even release or use my other hand to turn the handle.

Quite literally the first game I have ever left a review on, but I had to this time. This game looks amazing but it completely does not work when streaming to a vr headset. It will either launch in a flat vr screen to be a completely black screen depending on the mode you launch it in. Others have faced this problem too and they said you can fix it by enabling a "vr streaming setting" but I do not have this setting anywhere in the games options. If a anybody, or even better developer, knows what wrong and has a fix I will gladly remove this review and give this game the much higher rating it deserves.

This is the best shooter that makes you feel like john wick
