Storm Boy

I did not even know this game was based on a book before I played it, but wow... what a beautiful little story. ♡ It is very short (about 30 minutes), but honestly, I didnt mind at all. The game is mostly little relaxing mini-games. Nothing difficult or stressful! just a cozy experience that lets the story shine. I got it on sale for €0.99 and it was absolutely worth it. I was NOT expecting to get so attached to a pelican, but here we are. 😭Mr. Percival completely stole my heart. This is one of those tiny games that leaves you with a warm feeling when its over. A really cute, small little story game. Easy achievements. Id buy on sale though I finished in 25 minutes.

A short interactive retelling of Colin Thiele's 1964 children's novel, aimed primarily at younger audiences. Set on South Australia's Coorong beaches, near the Murray River mouth, it follows Storm Boy, who lives in isolation with his father, Hide-Away Tom, after his mother's death, and rescues three orphaned pelican chicks, one of whom, Mr. Percival, becomes his lifelong companion. Structured as a 2.5D side-scrolling interactive storybook, it spans four brief chapters. Each has players walking along the shoreline and interacting with points of interest that trigger nine simple seaside activities: feeding pelicans, digging for cockles, sailing, diving, drawing in the sand, surfing dunes, playing fetch and flying through storms. Progress mostly involves walking left to right while excerpts from the novel appear on screen, occasionally interrupted by optional mini-games. Most lack purpose, challenge or consequences, and even story-critical ones are skippable. Only the shipwreck rescue, where players briefly control Mr. Percival, offers meaningful gameplay. The activities enhance the coastal atmosphere but add little to the story, while stiff controls, especially when throwing, feel…

Very cute game with a sad ending and I really enjoyed the 25 minutes of it. Yeah, it's very short and basically a collection of mini-games and a bit of a walking simulator. I think I'll check out the movie or book, though. But yeah, it's good that I got it on discount way back then, 5 bucks is too much for the content they offer.

Very chill and charming. Storm Boy is a short walking-sim adaptation of the classic children’s book, more of a relaxing interactive story than a “game” in the traditional sense. You’ll stroll the beach, enjoy a few easy mini-games, and soak up a nice, calming atmosphere that feels like a tiny seaside getaway. It won’t take you more than ~30 minutes to finish, and while there’s not much replay value, the serene vibe and simple story make it worth a go — achievements are super easy too.
