A Sceptic's Guide to Magic

⭐ Recommended Made by the same makers as Space Pilgrim, and you can tell. Same adventure-style gameplay of searching for items and working out how to use them. The game warned me about its content up front and even gave me a choice to tone down the nudity and the graphical violence. Off course I chose to tone it down, and credit to the makers for offering that option. But honestly, I don't like the fact that this nudity and all the other nasty stuff is in the game in the first place. Being able to tone it down is nice, but it shouldn't be in there in the first place. One weird design choice: when you move from one point to the other, it shows a green screen with lines, which I thought were meant to be roads. But the helmet icon doesn't follow the white lines and instead moves randomly over the screen. Strange choice, and a bit distracting. Some of the characters in the game are witches, and I love that. It's my favourite thing about the game. Having just finished it, I can say this is the best one from Pilgrim Adventures. I quite enjoyed my time with this. I have some frustrations with the storytelling that I won't try to talk around here. But it really is a nice time for what it is, even with that.

Slight humour

I'm generally not a fan of these slow paced point and click/puzzle games but I found this game to be pleasantly surprising especially for an RPGmaker title. You feel like this is going to be a generic murder plot with caricature type characters but they end up getting fleshed out in a very satisfying way. The script is overall pretty solid hitting dramatic notes when it's needed without feeling too much of a downer and also injects some humor that although not landing 100% of the time I found funny more often than not. The writing seems to be stronger here than similar games in the genre, and I was genuinely interested to see how the story played out and the fate of the characters, enough to finish the game and also see what all the different endings have to offer. I thought the puzzles and the in-depth knowledge of magic and rituals was pretty interesting as someone who isn't familiar with this sort of occult stuff. It definitely has the kind of puzzles that will require you to remember details and not forget about the items you've accumulated in the inventory since they can provide clues to help you find solutions, don't feel scared to consult a guide if you're stuck because on …
