About A Sceptic's Guide to Magic

"A Sceptic's Guide to Magic" is an exciting new adventure game from the creator of The Deed and The Space Pilgrim Saga.

The Story

Having spent years working as a forensic investigator, Lester Chapman has seen his fair share of disturbing crime scenes. However, nothing could prepare him for witnessing the dark primordial forces at work in his latest case. As he delves deeper into this mystery, the realms of science and magic collide, and cracks begin to form in his rigid perception of the world.

Fianna and Val are teenage witches who have lost their friend to a bloody ritual murder. They will stop at nothing to find the ones responsible, even if it means enlisting the help of a man who seems to have little faith in their magical abilities ...

A World of Magic

Follow Lester Chapman as he becomes initiated into the arcane mysteries of magic, studiously learning a new kind of spellcraft from an obscure tome entitled "A Sceptic's Guide to Magic."

Gather ingredients and other necessary items to create your potions and cast your spells. Combine this with traditional investigation and puzzle-solving to unravel the sinister truth behind the murder case.

Features

  • Play as both the primary character of Lester and the secondary character of Fianna the witch!
  • More than twenty spells to cast and dozens of magical ingredients to collect!

  • Nine chapters, several possible endings, plus a hidden bonus chapter featuring a new playable character!

Told my bro magic is fake, he turned my six pack into kittens. Beat it in one pizza, now I believe in cards and quantum crap. Best cure for boring skeptic bones.

Amusing puzzle solver, you have to think things through about where you saw items and check things out thoroughly but not a lot of super repetitive grinding. Fun story.

I'm generally not a fan of these slow paced point and click/puzzle games but I found this game to be pleasantly surprising especially for an RPGmaker title. You feel like this is going to be a generic murder plot with caricature type characters but they end up getting fleshed out in a very satisfying way. The script is overall pretty solid hitting dramatic notes when it's needed without feeling too much of a downer and also injects some humor that although not landing 100% of the time I found funny more often than not. The writing seems to be stronger here than similar games in the genre, and I was genuinely interested to see how the story played out and the fate of the characters, enough to finish the game and also see what all the different endings have to offer. I thought the puzzles and the in-depth knowledge of magic and rituals was pretty interesting as someone who isn't familiar with this sort of occult stuff. It definitely has the kind of puzzles that will require you to remember details and not forget about the items you've accumulated in the inventory since they can provide clues to help you find solutions, don't feel scared to consult a guide if you're stuck because on …
