ALASKA - An Endless Night

Taking this as a school project, this actually isn't that bad! There are some solid concepts, and the deduction mechanic is kind of fun. It does chug in some places, needing better optimization, but it was fun for what it was. Well done, students. Oh, and play with a controller, unless you have a AZERTY keyboard.

ALASKA An Endless Night is a surprisingly atmospheric investigation game that I found most interesting when it let me simply follow the trail and work out what happened for myself. I play as Clarence, a former bounty hunter searching for Enyeto after he is accused of killing my brother. I liked the setup because it gives the exploration a personal reason to exist rather than making me wander through Alaska without much purpose. The investigation system is the heart of the experience. I have to visit different scenes, search for clues and reconstruct parts of Enyeto's journey. I enjoyed this because the game makes me feel like I am gradually putting together a case instead of simply following a list of objectives. Looking around a location and finding something that changes what I think happened can be quite satisfying. The snowy wilderness also makes exploration feel different from the usual detective setting. The wide landscapes contrast nicely with the more focused investigation areas, and I liked travelling through the cold environment while trying to understand the events surrounding the case. This game is borderline unplayable! It runs like ♥♥♥♥, the song they picked for the intro is the kind of music talentless chicks make when they managed to pick up a guitarist and whoever decided to bind moving forward to the Z key deserves to get shot. But it kind of looked interesting enough to still give it a shot, I played through the tutorial and then went out into the world, only to get stuck on the map after finding some clues. There's the map and the summation of the tutorials thus far, the deduction menu is gone and I can't get back out, maybe it'll be fixed if you restart it, but at this point I don't care enough to give it further time and chances.

Was enjoying it, but then got stuck from from falling off a little cliff. Graphics/Physics wouldn't let me walk between trees to get on the path I had seen below, and cliff wouldn't let me walk back up. There's no save progress. Really disappointing, was unique with the clue system and I was enjoying but at the same time not enough to start over.

Interesting story and clue-solving, but the game gets boring fast. The graphics were distracting and the save system was unclear. Best for a PG-13 audience that enjoys slow, story-driven experiences rather than active detective gameplay.
