An awesome detective game with a twist that made me pause and verbally say "what the f***k"

The ominous, eerie atmosphere without jumpscares is lovely. I love to stride to the destination with some simple, jovial piano repertoire accompanying me. Sometimes life is simple. Being a perhaps novice journalist to investigate the town that has zero population However, I do think this game could have polished the ending a little bit better. Also, the player movement is too slow and feels like ambling sometimes. Especially if you are located in a gargantuan area 7 out of 10. Recommended 7/10

I have to say that I DO recommend this one; because the overall experience is a lot of fun if you enjoy investigating and exploring with no real handholding (for most of the game). If you don't like reading journal entries or newspaper articles, and having to take physical notes to remember important info, then this isn't the game for you. The story was engaging and for the most part the way information was slowly fed with just the right amount of red herrings was really well done. I had the motive/general story theorised correctly quite early on. It MAY have been a little cliche but that was fine because up until near the end the killer could have been multiple people. However, it's the end where the game fell apart. I genuinely can't understand what the devs were thinking. The killer happens to possess a murder hideout where not only is the bloody murder weapon there for you to find, but there's also a recorded confession where they proceed to enagage in cartoon villain levels of exposition. This basically treats the player who has spent literal hours reading journal entries, finding codes, and piecing together evidence, like an idiot. I didn't need to be told who the killer …

An engaging game that takes a bit of observation and deduction. There's a few logic puzzles scattered around the game, and a LOT of exploring to do. Painscreek as a town is actually quite big, and has a good amount of exploring in it. You'll need to find keys and passcodes to get into many of the premises and grounds around. Sometimes, you'll be back-and-forthing between locations once a new clue or key becomes available. There's not really any narration or dialogue - you may hear a couple of phone messages or tape recordings but for the most part the game is a relaxing, game with ambient sound and soft music. The game doesn't really handhold you through the story at all - you'll need to read diary entries, newspapers, notes, and pay attention as the story starts to gradually unfold as told from the former residents of the town. The premise follows you - as a journalist for a newspaper - being sent to a ghost town called Painscreek which saw a strange slew of tragedies in the mid 90s.
