CHARACTERS
Yune (CV: Mahiru Tsukishiro)Our protagonist Shuu’s classmate, destined to become one of his closest associates. She’s a vocal chameleon, skilled at mimicry and changing the tone of her voice.
Kirie (CV: Beni Sakurada)A petite powerhouse who has been tearing through the school and town filming for a movie she’s making for the Christmas Culture Festival.
Kotoha (CV: Beni Sakurada)A tidy, ladylike senior who’s tall and slender. Her oil painting skill is unparalleled, although she almost exclusively paints landscapes.
Sakuya (CV: Usa Fujisaki)A reserved junior who always seems to walk one step behind like an old-timey servant would. She may look like a defenseless girl, but inside she’s anything but.
Sister Lili (CV: Kohaku Sakurajosui)A teacher and nun at St. Aria Academy who in charge of its chapel. Perhaps because of her earnest nature, she is not good with any kind of off-color humor and blushes easily.
Gidou (CV: Kaina Honma)A third year, Shuu’s junior, and the head of the boys’ dormitory at Palm Dorm. He is hard-working and dependable, but also “eccentric,” as all great artists are. Nothing he does is ever ordinary... and that’s putting it nicely.
Youji (CV: Sekitoba)Yune and Kirie’s fellow classmate and someone who becomes a good friend to Shuu. He usually ends up stuck with the hard jobs, but that somehow only makes him all the easier to get along with.
Rinka (CV: Ren Sagami)Kotoha’s best friend who’s already been taken by someone known as Bad Santa at the start of the game. Footage of that incident can only be seen in Kirie’s film.
Jack (CV: Kuwagatamaru Kinoshita)The owner of a general store in the town’s shopping arcade that sells a little bit of anything and everything. He graduated from St. Aria Academy and is thus also Shuu and the gang’s senior.
Shuu (CV: -)The only person who comes from outside of the town. He’s got retrograde amnesia and while he knows he came from elsewhere, he remembers nothing else about the exterior world.
SUMMARY
"A holy night with no dawn, my dear..."
Shuu awakens, memoryless, in a town blanketed in snow that feels truly bizarre to him.
In this town filled with Europeanized architecture enveloped and closed off by a humongous wall called the aurora, there is nothing more treasured than the arts.
It is here in this mysterious town that Shuu is saved by its residents and allowed to live a fulfilling life with the students of St. Aria Academy.
However, this blissful life is eventually taken away from him in the blink of an eye. On December 25th, an unexplained conflagration brings the town to almost complete destruction.
Loving this town more than anyone, Yune decides to take destiny into her own hands and rewinds time back to December 2nd—the first day of Advent.
Why did all this destruction happen?
Why is it that no matter what they do differently in the past, it all still leads to the same future?
Why is it even possible to repeat these days in the first place?
And what is this miraculous blessing, this “Amazing Grace" that is said to come on Christmas?
The truth that awaits at the end of this endlessly-repeating loop will be written on this canvas of a town by their own hands.

Amazing Grace squanders a fairly decent premise with an ending so awful and drawn-out that it makes Kazuki Fumi seem short-winded. The story begins with protagonist Shuu, with a foggy mind, seeing glimpses of a girl singing near a lake. He then awakes in late November in a dorm room with two girls (one of whom is the girl from the lake), having lost all his memories. They introduce him to the new environment he finds himself in, a European-style town surrounded by a wall called the Aurora that is said to have protected the town from the Apocalypse 101 years ago, and which Shuu seemingly crossed. Shuu enrolls in the town's only high school, St. Aria Academy, which has a unique curriculum focused only on the arts, and gradually befriends other students and learns how the town differs from the world he may have come from. Although I said Amazing Grace has a decent premise, this early section of the story is certainly not without faults. It has many of the same annoying comedy tropes that almost every moege or moege-adjacent VN has, such as accidentally perverted moments, other characters calling the protagonist a pervert for seemingly no reason, and characters with absurdly exaggera…5 found this helpful
After a year of finishing this, after finishing several other VNs, I can point to this title and say that it was unique. It tried to tell something interesting. For that, I applaud it.1 found this helpful
Another title I would rate neutral if it were possible. I really love VN's that have supernatural or sci-fi elements. That's what makes Japanese storytelling so great. But sometimes the story plot, while initially very interesting and peaks your interest, comes crashing down into nonsense. Pros: God tier artwork by legendary artist Korie Riko. Absolutely gorgeous character designs, making the characters so loveable. An initially interesting storyline revolving around Christianity, which is pretty rare, along with mysterious supernatural elements that keep up your interest. Cons: Ridiculous ending and explanation for the cause of the supernatural elements. (trying not to go into spoilers here). Now that I know what's behind the whole thing, I seriously doubt I will ever be able to re-read this particular VN. Visiting the extras to view the "scenes" will be enough because Korie Riko's artwork is worth it.
Amazing Grace was a surprise. A lot of the reviews I read seemed very lukewarm or just okay, but this really is quite a quality story. Lots of mystery and drama. The aesthetic is as solid as Devil on G String, it is as philosophical and thought out as Wonderful Everyday without the noncon baggage, and has a great atmosphere, all with a time travel story that is pretty cute with a great emotional climax. There are two really strong love stories here, and two mildly okay ones. The choices are mostly clear, and the TL is pretty good, just a little opinionated (no honorifics). Maybe I've read too many time loop stories, but I thought 95% of the mysteries were very clearly foreshadowed if you're paying close attention. That may sound like I'm calling it predictable, and on some level it sorta was, but the way things fit together in the end was still very thoughtful and novel. Heartily recommend, a phenomenal VN.
