EDIT: Please read the comments in the review for further context. This game is quite an enigma. The game itself, is alright. Considering the description and store page is completely redacted, I will provide my own paraphrasing what the game entails below. You control a droid that's armed with a unique "socket" system so that they can manipulate different elemental spells to eliminate physical manifestations of despair. To do this, you delve into people's minds and survive through waves of enemies in an action-2d roguelike state, powering up your spells by inserting different elements into spell sockets so that you make up spells to completely dispatch enemies. This is a really cool concept, that's also been explored in the previous games made by Lunar Penguin Media. While I mention it being a cool concept, execution-wise, the game kind of stumbles a bit. Considering that the game has been taken out of early access, I must therefore review it as a "completed product". It is very perplexing that the game's description has been changed to either be redacted, or be repeated with a phrase; "when your dreams come true, where else is there to go?" I don't really understand this update…

ANGEL DROID is one of those games where I can immediately tell how much passion went into the idea. It is an unfinished roguelike built around crafting combat abilities, with a strange mix of action RPG combat, bullet hell encounters and experimentation. I liked how ambitious it feels despite clearly being a project that was never fully completed. The crafting system is the part that interested me most. The game is built around creating different combat abilities and then experimenting with how they work against demons. That gives me a lot more freedom than simply finding a new weapon every few minutes. I enjoyed the idea of building something around my own preferences and then seeing how well it performs when the enemies become more dangerous. Combat has a satisfying arcade feeling because I am constantly moving while attacks and enemies fill the screen. The roguelike structure also makes each run feel like an experiment. I can level up, gain rewards and improve my abilities, then try a different combination the next time. The ability crafting gives the usual repeat run structure a little more personality.
