About Arruyo

Spain. In the 1950s. the memories of the civil war still tower over the country. Alone at home, shut away, Francisco paints the horrors of conflict. Remembrances of famine and death torment him, and voices of betrayal echo through the house hallways. Something is near, calling him, crawling inside the walls, deep below the foundation of his house. The heart of the nightmare awaits, for the painter to face the darkest episodes of his life.

Arruyo is a 3D first-person horror game inspired by Francisco de Goya’s “Black Paintings” and “ The Disasters of War”. The player will have to uncover the mysteries that await in the house to survive the horrors born of the disasters of the Spanish Civil War.
  • Survival Horror mechanics
  • 3 different levels inspired by the architecture of the country houses of Andalucia.
  • Story inspired by the events that occurred during the Spanish Civil War.
  • Original soundtrack inspired by classical Spanish music.
  • Languages: Spanish, English, Basque.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's interesting story, excellent soundtrack, and creative concept, but significant bugs severely hamper the experience. Common complaints include game-breaking glitches during specific sections (particularly around the second nightmare and demon-painting mechanics), lack of autosave functionality forcing repeated restarts, and performance issues like stuttering and getting stuck after cutscenes. While some found the game playable despite these issues, most feel the bugs make it difficult or impossible to complete.

The game seemed pretty decent and interesting, however I could not finish it because the game kept bugging on the second Nightmare I found, so it is pretty frustrating of a game... Even though I want to play it until the end, the game should be fixed, because not only it bugs, but it doesn't autosave either so I just have to keep restarting the whole game over and over again. Until this issue is fixed, I do not recommend this game...

I feel bad dumping on a free game but the other reviews are right in my case as well. was going ok until you start lanterning painting demons or whatever. inputs don't work or something's bugged. bummer.

Excellent soundtrack and an interesting enough story considering the games length. Apparently its a student project which accounts for a few of the bugs I had (stuttering, jittering when cutscenes play and being trapped in place when rocks fell) However not nearly as bad as I expected considering the reveiws it played completely fine. Short, not too scary with some very basic puzzles definitely thought provoking and interesting.

Bugs make it unplayable

The game was really interesting, not really scary, puzzles a bit easy but enjoyable, however, it may look like it's still buggy (at least for me), there were some moments specially after cinematics that the game didn't let me advance and i needed to restart
