I'm not seeing a lot of reviews, which is tragic because this is a pretty fun game

"Ballad of The Masked Bandits" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from University of Utah in the USA. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students made an unambitious low poly cartoony western themed puzzle game where you control three racoons in a trenchcoat to steal stuff. Could work if implemented well, but the students didn't even bother finishing the game. They got their grades and walked away. While this game is clearly an Indie attempt at a novel concept (controlling 3 racoons in their journey to loot the West), the overall gameplay did not convince me. I really liked the idea, design and music, all of them blend really well to create a cool atmosphere. However, the lack of general idea of what to do makes it hard to play if the puzzles don't click right away.. I managed to complete the first level because I watched the trailer and saw the mechanic there :)) Overall, 2/4
