Bat to the Heavens

This is a game for a rare person. If you are that person you will fall in love. You are probably not that person. I would compare this to Void Stranger. Completely different genres, but very similar in structure. I despise Void Stranger. BUT. It has helped me recognize my flaw, of trying to consume something not for me. The frustration of the gameplay increasing as the dopamine for getting the W lessens; checkpoints not leaving a feeling of accomplishment but a feeling of relief as you can close the game; 'it's about to get good.' Look at the steam achievements. [b]24%[/b] of people have reached "A Town". Roughly 1 in 4 people who buy this game make it halfway through the regular content - and then [b]8%[/b], 1 in 12, go on to reach the basic ending. Not including the insane extra content that goes on and on that I've heard of in whispers. If you buy this game it is more than likely to end up as an eternally backlogged item. (For reference, Celeste has a 35% ending reached rate.) How do you figure out if you're the one? I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The unique movement mechanics make for a very fun experience, which I haven't really had in any other platformer I've played. The puzzles aren't really the usual ones in game like this. It's much more about finding your own way around, which can sometimes feel like cheesing or breaking the game, or not being the intended way. That only really makes it more fun for me (some of the intended solutions aren't much more sane than the cheesy ones anyway). Once you get a bit better at it (which is going to take a lot of time) the secret hunting gets insane. If you have a fair bit of frustration tolerance and would like a fun experience, with a relaxing soundtrack and very cute art style and humor, I highly recommend this game.

One of the most demanding games I've played, but that frustration is counter-balanced by an incredibly expressive toolkit that is rewarding like no other. There are so many hidden elements to this game that it disguises from you at first, and their continued evolution inside the level design is really compelling. Far better than it's popularity (or lack of it) suggests, and an easy recommend if you want a game to smash your face into.

I've only played a little bit so far, but the exploration is really clever and the central movement mechanic is super unique. Also, the art style is very charming.
