Hades has never clicked for me in the gameplay department. I just am not a fan of the roguelike structure. This game has so many of the strengths of Hades, but none of the frustrating, game resetting, mechanics of rogue-likes. So far Blackheart is shockingly good for how little attention it has received, Regardless of commercial success, this dev team should be proud of what they created. The only thing that it's missing is an in-game map.

Blackheart is one of those games that I ultimately enjoyed enough to recommend, but I also don't think it's something that will appeal to everyone. If I had to summarize it simply, it's a twin-stick shooter with magic abilities, exploration, and a strong emphasis on its story and characters. It took me roughly five hours to reach one ending, with additional endings available depending on the choices you make and how thoroughly you explore. Combat is solid throughout. The player gains new magical abilities over the course of the adventure, giving you more options as the game progresses, and the core shooting mechanics feel responsive. My biggest criticism is that enemy variety doesn't evolve all that much from the opening hours. While new abilities help with combat variety, you're largely fighting variations of the same enemies for most of the game, which makes encounters become a little repetitive by the end. There are three boss fights, and while I enjoyed them overall, the final boss is a considerable jump in difficulty compared to everything that comes before it. I wouldn't necessarily call it unfair, but it definitely stood out compared to the rest of the game's relatively fo…

This is a criminally underexposed game. It's an extremely well put together action game with fluid game play and a well realized world. Exploration is fun, combat is fun, and the story is engaging enough to pull you along. There are some especially good quotes that I may be *ahem* "borrowing" for future use, so thank you very much, Blackheart devs! Overall, there are only good things to say about this experience. If you have an even passing interest, please give it a try!

Fun game to play on the go. Nice & relaxed with plenty of unexpected action. You'll keep wanting to come back to explore more.

I haven't had enough time to get really into it. But from the time I have played so far, I am confident I will be coming back. It controls really great, a lot of really nice polish touches. Has a really great sound track and audio. And the story so far is very intriguing.
