About The Heart of Darkness

"Oh, Cursed Saintess, will your soul find the light, or will you forever be lost in the darkness?"

A terrible curse blankets the kingdom in shadows, thrusting it into utter despair and erasing all light. One day, a maiden appears from the north and chases away the darkness, reintroducing light across the land. However, after taking in all the shadows, the maiden is consumed by evil, allowing it to flood out of her body. In a final attempt to seal that which escaped, the maiden locks herself away.

The king, driven by fear, demands the death of the maiden to save his kingdom. Many warriors journey forth in an attempt to slay the maiden, but the darkness curses all who dare to encroach, creating an even greater evil that consumes the kingdom. Take up arms as the next brave warrior to save the land and expel the shadows!

Choose between one of five origins: the lives of people who fell just short of becoming heroes, all with different skills and abilities. Inherit one of their bodies as your own and begin your heroic journey. The Heart of Darkness has multiple endings depending on the origin you choose and the decisions you make throughout your adventure.

Enjoy quick turn-based battles where strategy and choice of allies are key! Find Shadow Souls—the spirits of warriors past—and enlist their aid in battle! Each has its own unique backstory and abilities and can be swapped out freely.

Throughout your adventure, meet both friends and foes also exploring the Sanctuary. Take on quests to lay low powerful beasts or track down family heirlooms for fallen noble houses. Manage the Doll's Repose, your base of operations where you can learn more about the world, craft new equipment, and expand the mansion to contain new facilities!

Unravel the mysteries shrouding the Sanctuary of Darkness and its inhabitants in this sinister RPG brought to you by Kagura Games and BigWednesday.

I don't know this game is good or bad, but the save system is definitely ♥♥♥♥! No autosave or constant save, save can only perform at one place, so when I navigating a big dungeon, the game crash, and hours of progress just gone like that!

The Heart of Darkness is presented as a dark-fantasy, Souls-like game, but fails spectacularly at the "darkness" part. So how exactly does "The Heart of Darkness" try to make the story dark? First, there are characters that have a tragic fate. A player should sympathize with them and feel sad whenever something bad happens to them. But that doesn't work, because a player should get emotionally attached to a character first. In "The Heart of Darkness", all the characters feel like strangers whom you happened to pass by and having small talk. The character I liked the most is Hilda. She feels much closer than other characters, but at the end of the story she just doesn't elaborate and disappears. I understand, that in souls-like games, a player should figure out the story by himself, but in this case it doesn't work. A player needs to know the story of a character to sympathize with them. Instead, it feels like "that's sad, I can guess what happened, but I need to move on with the game, so maybe I'll check it later". The story of the hunter is outright comical. Second, the story itself. It's predictable, you need to save the world. You save it and... that's all! The king isn't trus…

Excellent game with a tremendous sense of identity, albeit one that is highly referential of FROM software's fantasy games. Combat is enjoyable but a bit on the easy side, the real appeal of this game is the atmosphere and exploration, and a genuine commitment to dark fantasy that is reminiscent of Fear and Hunger. The H content is good, though entirely static. The best part of this aspect is the "bedtime stories". My only real complaint is that the artist draws male anatomy in a pretty unappealing way. Absolutely recommended to anyone who isn't triggered by SA in their dark eroticism. If you wanna see what George RR Martin's writings he doesn't actually show anyone are like... play this. :D
