About Shattered - Tale of the Forgotten King

In the beginning, there was the King.
From a thought, he conjured up the Void.
From a glance, he made the world.
And from a whisper, he created us.

The world as it was is gone, lost with the disappearance of the King. As a Wanderer of these forsaken lands, it is up to you to piece together the fragments of reality and retrace the fall of civilisation through skill based combat, innovative open-world platforming and the testimonies of survivors… some more trustworthy than others.

Ethereal exploration and epic battles

A ruined continent of untold stories and mighty foes is yours to roam. For those who brave its paths, the world of Hypnos contains many secrets, some to aid you on your way and others to illuminate the road that led to your existence. Experience precision based combat and 2.5D platforming set to a complex branching narrative in the reality spanning action-adventure of Shattered - Tale of the Forgotten King.

Are you ready, Wanderer?

Features:

A new world to discover: Explore a gorgeously rendered semi-open world with branching paths and mysterious secrets. Each new zone tells a story through stunning art direction and finely crafted design.

Monstrous enemies to defeat: Observe your foes, anticipate their moves and use their own attacks against them. Switch between close-combat sword fights and long distance spell slinging to dominate the battlefield, and experience seamless transitions between full 3D and 2.5D battles.

A tale 10 years in the making: The universe of Shattered is the culmination of over a decade’s worth of imagination and creativity: an epic reality conjured from the minds at Redlock Studio. Tale of the Forgotten King is but a first step into the world of Hypnos, with more games already planned.

A story all your own: Not all survivors of Hypnos are trustworthy: though most will help you on your way, there are those who seek to use you for their own ends. The world will remember the choices you make during your adventure, and only those with focus and dedication will see through to the truth beyond.

Constant progression: Whether through combat or exploration, the Wanderer will evolve. How is up to you. With your finite resources will you raise your strength or discover another truth of Hypnos? Buy a new weapon, or increase your spellcasting? The choice is yours but choose carefully: not every path can be taken.

« I had travelled through forgotten paths for days, weeks and months to reach the Thousand-Door Palace. A place where only silence reigned now. Where the wind had stopped and the tides retreated with the Great Rift. The great Departure.

And here I was, bathed in my mist of past and future memories, standing in this mythical place that remained, still. The only location anyone in Hypnos could have found with no map or compass back when the King still reigned.

And I Remember the Silence In My Soul.
The Bitter Raindrops In the Wind. »

Baffling. Simply baffling that this game has “mixed” reviews. I would understand “mostly positive” because of some jankiness and simple combat, but “mixed” is just disrespectful. There are some games that you can tell are made by gamers first and artists/storytellers second, and some games that are the opposite. This is most certainly an artist first game. The lore is incredibly deep and intriguing, the art direction is top notch, and the world itself is well put together. But the moment to moment gameplay leaves something to be desired. It has simple combat with every weapon having the exact same moveset, just some quicker or slower than others. It has janky collision and enemies are incredibly easy to stunlock most of the time so the game is quite easy except for a couple boss fights. I do want to take a moment to praise the boss fights. For a game that has generally middling combat, the bosses are actually both fun and challenging. The exploration is also a lot of fun as long as you don’t mind if the rewards you get for it are yet another useless item. I don’t mind that, for me the exploration is the reward and just the experience of learning the map and seeing new areas. But…

How can this game have mixed reviews? How come is this game not more talked about? How can people miss this gem? Wtf world. This is an incredibly well crafted game for those who enjoy rpg layered with mystery and secret lore. You can make mistakes, but you learn about where you are at. I will update my review with more details once I have completed the game. This is a hidden gem. Amazing work Redlock Studios. I'm playing this before giving Hypnos a try.

I grant you it doesn't have the most complicated combat in all of gamedom dark souls or sekiro it is not, but the looks and general vibe are awesome and if you want to play a bit more simplified game then either of those games this one is just fine; Game difficulty is not a mark of quality just because it's hard doesn't mean it's good nor does and easy game means it's crap.

This game suffers from what I can only assume is too many creative directions and not enough people just saying NO. The game has no identity and its almost immediately felt within the first hour of gameplay. It WANTS to be a deep lore rich world with souls like combat and interesting ideas. The lore is somewhat interesting but not enough to sit through 5-15 dialogue boxes per NPC that after awhile feels meh. The world while at times pretty is also terribly designed, shortcuts that don't make sense, pathing that seems weird and just thrown together. Items that you pull are named and thrown at you with sci-fi names that if they weren't healing or upgrade materials I just ignored. It acts like combat was an afterthought with the ability to just stun or parry anything into oblivion. The forced 2d platforming sections with a terrible camera that you are almost always fighting, or just the transition into the 2d that feels awful to the out of nowhere open world plains area of running with a stamina meter for reasons I guess. It is something to get on sale and try. If you can get passed the first 2 hours than I think you would like it, but if you suffer and scratch your head in the first …

every indoor area is a dimly lit garbage maze of similarity, intertwined with even more garbage platforming whos only redeeming quality is it doesn't take your souls by falling to your death. it doesn't reset you at the ledge or let you grab on to them, have fun spending your time walking back. the whole later 3/4 of the game is behind the most garbage platforming sequence yet, to which i have given up on, and this pile has super hard bosses to have given up at earlier.

Per se, I like this game. The world is interesting and the mystery surrounding your player character and the world intriguing. The combat is, well, okay, not everyone will like being locked in that much into dodging and parrying, and the PC is not the best against multiple opponents. But. The absolute lack of a map for the various areas in game, let alone a bloody compass/mini map is just how you build in complete frustration - all you have is a world map of the Ancient Lands, not of Limbo or anything else, and there's *zero* explanations for half a dozen things that happen in game or that you can do (such as warp gates).
