Now this is a Metroidvania. Lost constantly until I got the lay of the land. Hidden stuff out the butt. Juvenile humor. They don't make'em like this anymore. I would highly recommend this if your a veteran of the genre. The slow movement (until you get the dash ability) and cryptic nature of the map may be overwhelming for those not accustomed to it's more old school sensibilities. But this is truly a hidden gem.

Neat lil' microvania with a lot of heart and surprising difficulty. A bit rough around the edges in some of the UI and stuffs, but anyone looking for a three hour diversion, look no further.

It's a relatively short metroidvania for those who prefer to memorize the game world and who appreciate replaying a game and taking new paths through it. It has a crude comedic tone, which didn't sit well with me overall but wasn't particularly intrusive either, and not much of a story or ending; it's more of a gameplay first experience. In terms of exploration there are various progression options and decent navigation challenges but also many false walls with no clue to their existence, and you'll need to be patient early on as movement starts off slow and you might run into several difficulty spikes. I would recommend looking up how to get the dash move early to be honest. + Dash ability which lets you run across spike beds and jump after falling/running off of a ledge (see DKC or ball jumping in Metroid 2). With the right gear you can also dash into some smaller enemies to kill them instantly Comedic tone Play as an undead skeleton Enemies tend to be weak to specific weapons Some teleporters, Some shortcuts are opened up over the course of the game Some good bosses (the templars - use the environment (also used vs the final boss), necro (vampire), ) Decent variety Blocking (p…

Bone Appetit is a charming little metroidvania, though it has many annoying flaws. I love its endearingly juvenile sense of humor and its consistently silly pixel art, and even its utterly inappropriate garage-band-like musical score. On the other hand, the game's map is beyond useless, lacking even the most basic information, its bosses are just massive damage sponges you have a better chance of killing by trading damage with than learning the patterns, and its equipment system is super clunky, requiring constant weapon switching just for traversal.

This is a fun, focused romp. It's very oldschool gameplay, inspired by the DOS era of PC gaming - the platforming and object collision is intentionally loose and it suits the gameplay well. The humor is crude and juvenile, but I don't think it's excessive or gross, even though it's not my particular cup of tea. Other reviewers have likely said everything there is to say about this, and I don't have anything unique to add, I just wanted to say that it's a fun little game and I enjoyed my few hours with it.
