Bronco County is on the brink of war. A conspiracy to provoke a conflict between the western settlers and the Chepakwik threatens to destroy both sides. Only Kid, Doc, Moon and Rosy know the truth. But to save their homes, they’ll have to hunt down five legendary outlaws whose very names strike fear into the hearts of men.
Boot Hill Bounties continues the saga of Kid and his companions as they journey deeper into the darkest corners of the Wild West and come face to face with the evil Creed Little, Stampede Sally, Tuco Delgado, Scorpion Saint and Burning Crow.
While Boot Hill Bounties is the second game in a saga, it was designed for new players to comfortably jump in without having played the first game. Six years in development, Boot Hill Bounties is a 2D retro RPG set in the Wild West that supports single player or UP TO FOUR PLAYER LOCAL CO-OP.
Wild West Epic: Boot Hill Bounties is the second episode in a game series that fuses elements of spaghetti western film - gunslinging outlaws, brave lawmen, and the untamed wilderness - with classic RPG storyline and gameplay. 90s console RPGs like Final Fantasy, Earthbound and Chrono Trigger created lasting memories and impacted us as gamers. Now, Boot Hill Bounties brings back those experiences while revitalizing the genre with a Wild West spin and innovative new gameplay elements.
Retro Fresh: It's an experimental combination of old and new ideas intended to bring a new and unique experience to modern gamers and old-school fans alike. It's an epic Wild West adventure packed with excitement, intrigue, terror and the occasional dose of humor.
Active Combat: Typical turn-based combat is replaced with fast and frenetic real-time system where all players remain engaged in battle and no one is waiting for a turn!
4 Player Co-op: Play single player or up to four player local co-op. Friends can seamlessly drop-in and take control of a character! You simply assign each of the four characters to various input devices. So a single player can control all four characters, or you can play with friends and divide the four characters among your friends.
Music: Full soundtrack by Jake ‘virt’ Kaufman (“Shovel Knight”, “Shantae”, “DuckTales Remastered”)!
Encounters: No random battles! See them on the map before engaging! Defeated enemies remember you and flee.

Treasure: Find and discover different treasures dropped by enemies rather than money, that you can then sell for money.
Battle Grades: Earn higher grades for better combat performance for more XP.
Nonlinear Chapters: Play the story chapters in any order as you decide which paths to follow first.
Cooking: Cook food at camp using various ingredients to give you party battle perks.

I'm a bit late in reviewing this game, but I have to say that [i]Boot Hill Bounties[/i] is a worthwhile little indie title to play. It's a continuation of the developer's first game [i]Boot Hill Heroes[/i], and I have to say that this game is a significant improvement over the original. The majority of my complaints from the original were alleviated and I was able to play through this just fine, besides a little hiccup here or there. One important thing to note is that the developer is responsive even to this day about any potential issues with the game, so they're clearly devoted to their work. That's a rare sight nowadays. Essentially, you're following bounties to hunt down the remaining members of the Saints-Little Gang in the Wild West. The game is split up into parallel sections that focus on the different bounties, and you can choose which ones to tackle. The maps are done in [i]Earthbound[/i]-style, and while I had some issues in the first game with navigation, it seemed to be done better here in most places. Following where Boot Hill Heroes leaves off, Boot Hill Bounties brings back the exceptional soundtrack and storytelling that makes this series one worth getting into. It introduces many new features like cooking and camping as well as several sidequests. I was reminded of the good old Bioware days with the character development and freedom to chose the route that the story unfolds on. I can tell that a lot of passion went into the development of this series and I'm dying to see what will happen in the next installment!1 found this helpful
Playing any indie rpg reveals the limitations of the creator’s vision. Those limitations make a frustrating experience for the average player who strays outside their comfort zone. A familiar experience that I had during my playtime with this old Western inspired Earthbound. Bogged down by unnecessary flashbacks when getting a new party member to catch up newcomers to the series kills the momentum of the gameplay by bringing it to a standstill. Nor is it a particularly clever way to do things since it feels more like an advertisement for the first game in the series. Or in my honest opinion, the various cutscenes scream look at this cool, new party member that showed up for you to admire. Not that I plan on admiring the stereotypical Indian princess character who wandered from an old Western movie set to star in this game. I’m more interested in keeping my eyes from rolling out of my head whenever she speaks about the great spirit. Yes, she literally talks like that in the game. No, it’s not a cute homage when a character is made up of old racist stereotypes. Making homages to old Westerns is fine, but copying the bad aspects of them shows an unwillingness to engage with the s…

Boot Hill Bounties is an awesome game and is now one of my favorite finds on steam. I'm glad it was in the "Epic Adventures Bundle" as it might not have registered on my radar without it and I would have missed out on a great ride. If you enjoyed Earthbound and other old/retro RPGs this game will scratch that nostalgia itch. The story is pretty good but keep in mind Bounties is part 2, and while they give you a rundown on the last games events there are a few references mentioned during the game you wont know much about without having played Boot Hill Heroes. Not a big deal-breaker but if you're a stickler for story I'd get Heroes first. Combat feels a little clunky at first but you soon get the feel for it and becomes second nature quickly. A lot of the enemy encounters and combat abilities were also pretty funny. Overall charming game with a good story, humor and enjoyable gameplay. Solid A/A+
This is a wonderful addition to the Boot Hill series that I didn't know existed till a year and a half later. (been searching for Boot Hill Heroes 2 and nothing came up) I'm surprised just how lengthy the game turned out to be, with split paths, that all take a good amount of time to complete. The quality of the game is also top notch, and while the art style of the characters may look a bit goofy at times, the enemies look fantastic. There are plenty of skills to learn and options in battle, which keep things fresh. I really do hope that there may be a third part, as the story, while at a pretty good spot, is still left unfinished, but given just how hidden this gem is; I unfortunately can't keep my hopes up. I can only suggest it to the friends I have.
