Here's the thing: I installed the game a while ago (IDK 2023 maybe?), finished chapter I, and forgot the game existed up until two weeks ago. Gameplay (combat especially) grows too simple/ tiresome after getting all upgrades, which spawn randomly. In fact, upgrades for abilities/ perks RNG might be the worst aspect of the game.
I found this game to be extremely unique and compelling. I think westerns are an under-explored genre in gaming, and Weird West really leans into the genre. Definitely check it out if you're a fun of narrative sims!
Detailed, creative, fun, and a great setting with strong writing. This is a mix-mash of genres from Turn-based to Real-Time combat paired with RPG elements and a fantastic narrative. Quite enjoyable with many options for handling the various encounters you will experience while you play. Great graphics, tight controls, and strong voicework all come together to make this a VERY good game.
good
Took a while to get it, and I think it probably works better with a controller, but really enjoyed the gameplay and an interesting mystery throughout the story!
This game is... not great. I think one of the worst parts for me is how you're forced to switch characters. The only thing that differentiates each of the characters gameplay-wise is their abilities, but rather than simply being unlocked by default, you have to invest your limited skill points into them knowing you're going to lose access to them anyway. That's not to mention the pointless busywork of having to go find your previous character so you can reclaim the things in their inventory. The combat is about what you'd expect from a top-down shooter. It's super basic, and even though there are a handful of different abilities, they're all made basically obsolete by the Max Payne-style shootdodge which slows down time and gives you increased fire rate. At times, the combat can almost feel fun, but the majority of the time it’s ruined by the game’s horribly clunky controls and a camera that you have to fight almost as much as the enemies themselves. The game world is also pretty uninteresting. Rather than being a seamless open world, you navigate between areas using a 2D map, and it becomes clear pretty fast that all of these areas look basically the same and rarely ever have…
