About Breakers World
Breakers World was created by students at Full Sail University's Game Design Master course as well as many skilled externs who assisted in the making of this product. Breakers World was developed in 9 months starting around mid-January 2022 and ending development on October 31, 2022. While this was an ambitious, and well managed game, many features were not able to be fully fleshed out in the allotted time span and there are animations that were unfortunately too expensive to implement by the final release date. Thanks for supporting our work and have a great time exploring Breakers World!
Breakers World is a 3rd person sci-fi action-adventure RPG with team and base-building elements. On a barren planet, an oppressed class of people called "Breakers" are enslaved by a corporation, toiling long hours to salvage valuable scrap from decommissioned starships in exchange for food. When a young man named Jax finds a MindCore, an AI with the ability to build a new ship from scrap, he embarks on a dangerous adventure to escape the planet.
Players who enjoy exploring, fighting, and developing their own unique character archetype will enjoy Breakers world, as those elements are presented in a new and interesting way. The player follows the journey of a Core Hunter, an adventurer class with the ability to grow and develop in any way they choose, adding specialties and advanced skills from any of 10 skill trees.
Each skill tree is associated with the subsystems of a spaceship, such as engineering, weapons, sensors, and navigation, closely coupling beloved components of RPG games with the hard science of how a highly complex ship functions. The player finds additional "System Cores" in each wreck they explore, adding them to their power armor to further advance their skillset and abilities. Other core hunters, NPCs, are also after the valuable cores, and the player will confront them in each level, choosing whether to fight them and claim the cores they possess or recruit them to the player's crew.
To become more powerful, the player just needs to add cores and abilities to their character, but to win the game, they need to also use 5 cores to finish building each of the subsystems of their ship. They also need to recruit 5 core-enhanced crew members, one to operate each of their ship's completed subsystems.
Once the player's ship is completely built and staffed with a crew, they can escape the planet and win the game. However, they are racing against an invisible but ever-present threat, which is the planet's oppressive Management. The corporation that controls the breakers cannot allow their slave labor to achieve space-faring capability and actively hunts the player. The player must keep a low profile any way they can, killing core hunters who are loyal to management, being careful who they recruit to their own crew, and taking care to not betray information to the planet's curious and desperate citizenry.
The game is rendered with beautiful 3D environments and mocap animation, with fully cinematic dialog and state-of-the-art digital humans bringing the unique story world to life in rich detail.
The open-ended character customization and branching dialog choices provide meaningful choices and high replayability, as every single playthrough will be very different and there are many paths to both victory and defeat.

No abilities or variations whatsoever. - Several mechanics feel redundant, bugged or unfinished, like the Loyalty system which seems to have no point, or the “attacks” that never seem to happen between missions. Let me preface this review with the fact that my friend is on the dev team for this game, and I think everyone worked their hardest on it with the time they had. Breakers world is a collective group project from graduates of Fullsail University. The Project is led by Joel Balyeat, who is an established author and artist. He seems to be a man of many hats, and he has shown a lot of passion for this game in his community. This project lasted for approximately 9 months until people were pulled away for other projects, albeit slowly. Right now there seems to be only a few people left trying to smooth out any existing bugs or problems with the current build of the game. This game seems to have been influenced by a few sci-fi shooters, such as Mass Effect, Dead Space, and The Outer Worlds, and tries to incorporate some of their features, such as dark, atmospheric maps, recruitable NPCs with dynamic relationships, and RPG elements outside of combat. Unfortunately, none of these are fleshed out at all, and there is only a foundation for each concept. You can recruit people but they have no observational use. You can buy things at a store that have no purpose. You are introduced to a cove…11 found this helpful
I play on a Sager Gaming Laptop. Normally, I can play AAA games on High to Ultra graphic settings dependent upon optimization. My main complaint is that the game freezes, will not relinquish the mouse, locks up my laptop, and I must disconnect the power supply and remove the battery. CTRL-ALT-DEL is not effective as the game is utilizing 60 -75% of the CPU time. It was easier to just completely remove power. Personally, I experienced a lot of wall clipping and control actions were neither smooth or fluid. It may be that my particular laptop configuration is just not compatible with this game. Additionally, I was not able run the Windows 11 compatibility troubleshooter as it gave an error, after three tries I gave up. I think that this game has potential but for me at this moment, it is unplayable.5 found this helpful
I'll start with the positives: 1. The sound, voice acting and ship design are all very good. 2. The general concept is tried and true. Rogue like, 3rd person shooter, with leveling, gear upgrades and ship improvements. Unfortunately that isn't enough for me to recommend anyone purchase it. The combat is ok, but becomes rather dull after an hour or so of playing. Then negatives: 1. Despite being done on Unreal Engine, which is great, the movement is choppy and the graphics seem dated. 2. The menu is very basic, and lacks any sort of customization (no way to remap keys or mouse controls) 3. Game play is buggy. Several times I got stuck on a "hacking" screen and no matter what keys I hit, I couldn't back away from the terminal. I also found a room that has no exit, and was forced to restart the game. 4. Despite being a futuristic game, the technology is amazingly bad. For example the flashlight you have lasts about 5 minutes (in real time) and then blinks off saying low on energy. Come on guys, get some Energizer batteries for this guy. 5. The BIG one. The developers have signed off on the game and have admitted they will not be doing any updates, so it is what it is. Not a bad game, but it is currently no longer being supported. Unfortunate.2 found this helpful
