重明鸟 Bright Bird

I personally found this a delightful game to play. Endowed with a stunning art style and a myriad number of puzzles, it fully engaged me for hours. This is not a game that you rush through unless you're a speedster! Your enjoyment of the game depends on how much you emotionally invest into it. The story is about love, betrayal, forgiveness and sacrifice. This is not a perfect game as it suffers from poor translation from Chinese from time to time but I was able to follow the story well. Some puzzles can be guesswork as objects that you can move aren't highlighted well. You play as Yao, a little girl who leaves her village trying to find out the source of the haze that is suffocating the country. Yao soon teams up with Yuan who acts as her protector and does all the muscle work in the game. You are able to switch from one to the other easily. Along the way, the pair meet many quirky characters as they try to find the power of the Bright Bird who could restore the balance of the world again. I found all the partners bar one. Bright Bird is a puzzle game with an utterly beautiful art style based on Chinese Mythology. Advertised as a puzzle sidescroller, I would qualify Bright Bird more as a puzzle platformer. But the platforming was mostly easy to do. We start the game playing as Yao, a little girl who is going on a quest looking for the Bright Bird, a magical creature that could heal the world that has been plagued by a deadly haze. She is able to use the power of bright light that reveals invisible things to the eye for a limited time. Soon, she is joined in her quest by Xuan, a taoist warrior, who can lend his strength and his magical sword to overcome any obstacles. As the player, we are able to freely switch between Yao and Xuan to solve the various puzzles encountered along the way and progress through the game. I hadnt expected this game to offer so much content. The journey is long and there is lots to explore and many puzzles to solve. The main caveat in the game for me was that the English translation was not the best. But in all, this was a really beautiful game to play. I recommend if you like beautiful puzzle games.

Before I played this, I had a small penis, no girlfriend and no will to live. None of these things have changed, but the game is pretty good.

This game had a lot of potential, visual and story-wise, but the clunky controls and awkward translation detracted too much from it. I died maybe 20-30x in this first attempt at a playthrough because the interactible objects look just like any other, with hints only appearing in certain places after you've failed several times (and have the guide mode turned on). And it's not clear what abilities your different party members are capable of - for instance Xuan can push/pull objects but for the longest time I never knew you could pull things back after pushing them; he can also stab with his sword but only on very select occasions. Yao can climb vines only in certain places. Long story short, if there wasn't so much trial and error needed to complete even a quarter of a stage, I wouldn't be so frustrated with this game.

This is a very very beautiful game. However I cannot recommend it. Some of the puzzles are very easy, other puzzles are very hard just because it's difficult to figure out what you're actually supposed to do. Many puzzles force you to run back and forth, reading far away instructions or dying over and over, which is pretty irritating since you can't move very fast. Also, there is clearly some kind of grand story-line happening, but I found the plot almost incomprehensible because of what seems to be a very poor translation from the original.
