About BroodStar
BroodStar is a classic arcade shoot’em up with heavy roguelike elements. Careful, though… the vastness of space contains many formidable enemies. If you fall along the way, you have to start over — the only thing you’ll bring with you are the upgrade modules you collected in your past runs, in the form of research points that augment your ship. Will they be enough to get you through hordes of unknown creatures and monstrous bosses, and fulfill your quest of defeating the living planet — the BroodStar?

There are 12 campaign stages, each with its own unique theme and enemy types. Keep an eye out for some secret/optional stages as well!
Besides the campaign you can also tackle a few challenge stages with specific setups and separate leaderboards!

Stage Modifiers will change the behavior of the enemies and introduce new hazards. Events such as ambushes, mid-stage bosses and more can spawn during each stage, introducing a new objective when triggered and generously rewarding the player when completed.

Enemies in BroodStar are a variety of standard SHMUP enemies and some more "confrontational" ones. There will be quite a few that aren't afraid to get in your face and ruin your day. Enemies that spawn in "Infected" stages are even tougher than their normal counterparts, so watch out!

The Upgrades in BroodStar can vary from simple Stat Upgrades that power up your ship, to more advanced types that can grant you powerful Active Items,
Projectile Modifiers or Drone Companions. Most of the Upgrade modules will combine with eachother to create unique combos. There are a ton of combo possibilities so don't be afraid to experiment!

The Research System will allow you to further power up your ship before each playthrough. Research points are obtained through picking up Modules of any kind and may be spent on any of the 3 available Research Trees: Offense, Defense and Utility.

Each playthrough will have a unique string identifier that determines the generated content. Share this seed with your friends so they can experience the same crazy combos and hardships that you did!

An amazing game, I bought around 30 games last Winter sale. This game is the cheapest of them all but I have been playing this game the most. I couldn't recommend it enough.3 found this helpful
BroodStar may be the most underrated Roguelite I've ever played. It's crazy that less than 100 people have reviewed this on Steam. The entire gameplay loop and general game balance is surprisingly good, and it feels very polished. Makes sense, considering the years of updates. I'd love to see a sequel someday, or maybe another update even if just to add a few modules.2 found this helpful
Really damn fun SHMUP. Thanks to the roguelike elements your shot types can widely vary from run to run to the point of hilarity. You can go from one run looking like a pretty normal SHMUP to another completely filling the screen with absolute nonsense, its great. My only real problem is you can get unlucky and go several runs without finding any upgrades for your main shot. Also the music is great.1 found this helpful
Very enjoyable. Great amount of modifiers and weapons to combine to make runs different. Not too difficult but hard enough to keep you on your toes. The best part might be the soundtrack, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥' stellar. Love it, especially in the later levels. Great job.1 found this helpful
Vertical shoot 'em ups or shmups is one of the oldest type of games, they go way back into the 80's and the coin-op era of gaming. I was never good at playing them but always loved them since i was a kid. Nowadays shmups are not popular but sometimes we see some good releases. BroodStar is a solid entry in the genre and mixes things up by integrating roguelite mechanics. It's a hidden gem imo that almost nobody knows it even exists. It's a really fun game and very replayable. Thumbs Up from me!1 found this helpful
Content is a bit short and the game isn't too challenging but it is fun! Solid for bite sized gaming sessions.1 found this helpful
