Catharsis

"Catharsis" looks a lot like it's a bunch of Unity assets dumped on a lazy "Eye of the Beholder" style first person dungeon crawler template (something like Grid Controller from the asset store, maybe)... and it certainly has all the same qualities as a godawful asset flip, from barely working mechanics, zero cohesiveness in the design, and well, just plain awful production values. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. A free dungeon crawler that tries to be like Wizardry, Legend of Grimrock, etc. but fails and seems to be abandoned. The mechanics are pretty janky and not very intuitive. One response from the developers is that this was a "student project" and that they had full time jobs so couldn't really invest the time into the game. If that's the case, why bother publishing it here, even for free? It's not fun and will just cause you to rage quit. The enemies are boring, graphics are simple, and the turn-based combat tries to be interesting but fails. Just avoid this train wreck, it's not worth your time.

its certainly nothing mind blowing but it is easy to understand and entertaining if you cant find anything else to play, combat is fine, exploreing is fine, seems pretty linear. if your bored, might as well play for a bit

I totally love grid dungeons ... if they are at least rather good. This is ugly, samey, unfair with traps and constant overpowered foes every few steps. Repeat, ... Forced myself to go on but couldn't take the slog any more in level 3. (Then just to see if it got better I found the Health -4 Bytes- to progress rapidly in god mode: nahh, gets worse).
