About Cheddar Beach 0 - Party on Mango St.
Cheddar Beach is an interactive visual novel inspired by old school point-&-click adventure games. In about 45 minutes of gameplay, you’ll meet Hamston & The Homies and traverse the world of Cheddar Beach in search of a crackin’ house party on a Friday night - inspired by Los Angeles in the early 90’s.
In Cheddar Beach you play as Hamston, a young adult hamster. I thought about him as being my ‘younger self.’ I think back to my college days of trying to adapt to adult life, and the freedoms afforded by it, while also avoiding any adult responsibilities that I could get away with. Actually, wait a minute... I’m STILL Hamston!!!
Well, you can be Hamston too! Kinda. Play as Hamston to be the ‘new guy in town,’ and navigate your way through “The Chedda.” Fortunately you’ve got your big cousin Gerbert on deck, pushing you forward. Hopefully in the RIGHT direction! Don’t worry though, all you have to do is page the homie Bossa and he’ll swoop in to strongarm you to safety.
Let’s get it crackin’! Where’s the party at? Who’s got the 411? Let’s get there, and have a brew. Maybe you’ll meet a nice lady-friend. Who knows what’ll happen tonight?
Welcome to Cheddar Beach!
A Message From Bryson
Yo, I’ll never forget back in high school when the homie printed out over 100 flyers for a house party that was poppin’ off that weekend. No cell phones. No social media. Hell, no internet. That was a world where you’re NOT making it to that house party on Saturday night unless you have one of those flyers. Or maybe your friend is going, but you don’t have their phone number. How do you unstuck yourself and get to the action? In Cheddar Beach you play as Hamston, a young adult hamster. Fun , Funny, and feels like playing through a memory . Cheddar Beach is a visual novel experience that had me crack a few smiles, I enjoyed the variety of characters, their different motivations, shenanigans, and interactions . You play as Hamston a fish out of water that's new to Cheddar Beach and hang out as his cousin Gerbert and cousins friend Bossa roam Cheddar Beach looking for a party. You run into a variety of significant and insignificant characters , one of my favorites is the Drunken Duck , and make a few choices as you experience a night along with Hamstons crew . I love the drawn art style of the characters it's simple but it almost gives the game a storybook quality , I love the cool panning background which changes in color in town that aligns with the music and scenes Hamston ends up in . the music is really strong bouncing between chill and lo-fi to much more upbeat exciting rock . I enjoy the dialogue as it reminds me of growing up in Southern California where I assume the games inspirations are based . and some real conversations I've had about family about how [ California burger classic staple ] hasn't updated their menu in decades and wh…2 found this helpful
Fun game so far! Looks like it is coming in episodes, which I'm fine with. It was enjoyable which is wild cause I usually don't like interactive novel games. But somehow it kept me interested. Maybe the music, or style, or characters, or story. Maybe all of it. I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next episode!
