About Rhythm Doctor

✦ AI summary

Tap your spacebar to defibrillate patients' hearts in sync with complex musical rhythms, learning music theory concepts like polyrhythms and irregular time signatures through an engaging story-driven campaign. Create and share your own levels with a robust editor, play solo or in local co-op, and tackle brutal Night Shift challenges for hardcore rhythm fans.

Save lives with your spacebar!

Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game in a world where defibrillating patients' hearts in sync with their heartbeats has healing properties. Slam your spacebar in perfect time on the 7th beat, and they might just come out okay. But beware - every patient has unique illnesses based on complex music theory: polyrhythms, hemiolas, irregular time signatures...if you don't know what they mean, don't worry. Rhythm Doctor is designed to make you learn music and rhythm theory without even realising it!
  • 20+ handmade levels, each with their own story.
  • Every level introduces a different concept of rhythm theory in an accessible way
  • A large cast of doctors and patients feature in an overarching, character-centric storyline
  • Play the story solo or grab a friend for drop-in drop-out local multiplayer throughout the whole campaign!
  • Robust level editor to make, share, and play community levels! Use your own music, place notes snapped to the beat, and use 50+ different visual effects and backgrounds
  • Challenging "Night Shift" versions of each level for the brave

(Note: 2P mode only works locally. Online 2P via Remote Play is enabled for this game, but it does not work that well right now due to varying latency)

Rhythm Doctor features flashing lights and colors. Please use caution if you have experience with epilepsy or any of its symptoms.

Unique, charming, challenging, and fun. Never had a harder time counting to 7 in my life.

This game is cool I don't think it deserves a negative review, but I have majors issues with the game design that I can't ignore. I am not a fan of the gameplay. While it is creative and very innovative, the only way the game ever challenges you is by using multitasking and unintuitive systems. I think that most of these are fun, but after a while it really becomes a chore to get through some of the levels, as the mechanics become more and more aggresive to your senses. Audio cues become harder and harder ro concentrate on because of the amount of cues played in a short interval. Visual cues are almost non existent since the game consistently throws visual effects everywhere which alter your visibility. The new systems that the game implement are fun in a vacuum. They aren't on real levels, because it just adds another layer of complexity which just hurts my brain after a while. This game is also very stress inducing. The challenges don't feel organic at all and thus I never want to retry a level because I hate how all the mechanics interact. This game just doesn't feel good after a while.

One of the most fun rhythm games I've played. A very simple concept, with ever changing mechanics and a great soundtrack. Definitely worth checking out!
