About Dark Fantasy Tower Defense

A-MAZE-ING Tower Defense

Return to the classics with a dark fantasy twist. Build twisting mazes, bait enemy paths, and stack absurd artifact synergies as you push your defenses further each run. Play solo or jump into online co-op with up to 4 players and turn your maze into a deathtrap together.

Classic Tower Defense Feel, Modern Roguelite Energy

If you miss the era when tower defense was simple, readable, and brutally satisfying. This is that vibe, upgraded. Thoughtful choices, unique runs, and a loop that keeps pulling you back in!

Build the Maze. Break the Horde.

In Dark Fantasy Tower Defense, your layout is your weapon. Shape the battlefield into a labyrinth that forces enemies to take the long way around... right through the kill zone. Every tower placement, choke point, and corner matters.

Tower Upgrades + Pick-a-Path Evolutions

Your towers get stronger, faster, and can shoot further with upgrades! Each run, upgrade your favorite towers and choose between two distinct upgrade paths to match your build:
  • Wizard Tower: unleash explosive cluster bombs, or focus into a devastating laser beam!
  • Lightning Tower: jump damage with chain lightning and shred groups or blast the skies!
  • Ice Tower: freeze the earth with powerful slows… or launch a giant snowball to smash the front line!
  • Arrow Tower: Triple shot or poison your enemies!
  • Lookout Tower: Deal double damage or splash damage on enemies in a large group!
And it’s not just damage dealers... build Support Towers to supercharge your defense:
  • Archer Camp: boost the range of nearby towers
  • Barracks: increase the damage of nearby towers

Artifacts & Merchant (Make Every Run Different)

Each run is shaped by what you buy, what you find, and how you stack effects with your team. Every 50 waves, visit the Merchant where you can purchase up to 3 of the 20+ items that can alter the run from economy and utility boosts to power spikes that change how your maze plays. On top of that, your hero can collect 25+ player artifacts with game-changing effects. Unlock an artifact chest every 20 waves to Mix, match, and stack synergies (especially in co-op) to create wild builds that push towers, enemies, and the rules of the run in your favor.
  • 20+ Merchant items to customize your strategy mid-run
  • 25+ player artifacts with unique, run-defining effects
  • Stack effects in co-op for absurd synergy and team builds
  • Every run plays differently thanks to randomized pick-3 options for Merchant and Artifacts to build variety
  • Level-Up to get Artifact Keys to unlock new artifacts and reveal new items for purchase at the Merchant!

Online Co-op (Up to 4 Players)

Build as a team, adapt as a team, and survive as a team online as a group of up to 4 friends. Coordinate maze layouts, cover weaknesses, and lean into synergy because the best defenses are the ones your friends helped ruin (in the best way). Local Co-op up to 2 Players! NOTE: Local co-op will require a controller for player 2.

Full Controller Support

Play comfortably from the couch or at your desk! Dark Fantasy Tower Defense is fully playable on controller with smooth menu navigation and responsive in-game controls. Local co-op players can each use their own controller, making split-screen sessions easy to set up and feel great to play.

Ten Maps Available (More Coming Soon!)

Start your runs across 10 distinct maps, each with its own layout quirks, obstacles, and challenges that change how you build your maze and choose your upgrades:
  • Boulder Canyon
  • Magma Plains
  • Flame Sprite Grove
  • Crimson Rampart
  • Fighting Pit
  • and more!!!
And this is only the beginning... more maps are planned, bringing new hazards, pathing puzzles, and fresh ways to break the horde.

Enemy Highlights

  • Orc warbands with Boars, Orc Riders, and Orc Rider Captains. Take down the mount first, then finish the rider
  • Haunted Trees and Ghosts that turn the battlefield into a nightmare
  • Flying threats like the Thorax that punish weak anti-air coverage
  • Kobolds that swarm and slip through bad layouts
  • Stone GolemsOgres, and Minotaur that soak damage and break through sloppy choke points
  • Mimics because treasure is treasure
  • Mini-bosses like the Battle Wagon and Zeppelin. When they go down, they drop orcs into the fight
  • A Final Test: A flying Dragon boss that demands a real build, not a lucky run

Features:

  • Maze-building gameplay that turns pathing into your primary strategy
  • Online co-op for up to 4 players
  • Local Co-op for up to 2 players (controller required for at least 1 player)
  • Roguelite structure with run-to-run variety and escalating difficulty
  • Artifacts + synergy system for wild build combinations
  • Merchant + Items for changing the game for yourself or others... at a cost!
  • Tower upgrades with pick-2 branching paths for different playstyles
  • Support Towers that buff nearby defenses with Range or Damage
  • Diverse enemy roster with special behaviors, flying units, swarms, tanky brutes, mini-bosses that spawn enemies on death, and a Dragon boss showdown
  • Dark fantasy atmosphere with a retro-styled presentation
  • Easy to learn, hard to master: layout, timing, and synergy win runs

Dark Fantasy Tower Defense is a very unique tower defense game, and I genuinely believe it has the potential to become a classic. Its retro and nostalgic atmosphere only reinforces that feeling. I understand that the game has only recently launched and still has plenty of room to grow. Since this appears to be an indie project, I want to encourage the developer to keep going. Good games eventually find their audience, and I think this one deserves the chance to do so. Here are some of my personal thoughts and suggestions after playing. At first, I struggled to adapt to the game's core gameplay loop. The player is expected to control their character, build structures, collect gold, and participate in combat all at the same time. I actually think this is a very interesting concept with a lot of potential. However, the Commander system also introduces a lot of restrictions, so the challenge is making players feel engaged and rewarded for interacting with it. One possible solution would be to make the wizard itself more impactful in combat. Right now, most of the items that improve the wizard's combat effectiveness feel fairly minor. I would love to see more interesting utility spe…

Nice design, good gameplay sofar but lacks content. Currently only handfull of towers with each 2 upgrade paths. So imho lacks variaty.

Cute simple game! Controls are made for a one handed accessibility I think though. You don't build on your mouse cursor, your little wizard is a mouse cursor? I'd def say worth 5 bucks or so.

I think this is a rough gem. I think the gameplay is ok, but the graphics are annoyingly bad and don't make sense to me. The resolution of the playable character differs from the buildings, as for the backgrounds, what makes it a mess. I think it would be good for the game if the developer can improve on this. I love this genre, i hope this becomes a good one!

The game has this way of just sucking up your time. You'll be playing for 20 minutes, and only after the round is over do you realize it wasn't 20 minutes, it was 45. It's absorbing.
