The Lantern of the Laughless Saint

very much a love letter to morrowblivion, excited to see where this ends up

Morrowind meets King's Field II and it's just as good as that sounds. Aside from a UI that is rather clunky and unhelpful, the game is a wonderful, beautiful game full of secrets. The strange unsettling atmosphere of the cursed island and the freedom you're given to explore it fills me with the same joy and sense of wonder as Morrowind did back in the day. The fact that you can play it pretty much seamlessly in co-op immediately put this up as one of my favourite games of the year. 9/10 it's everything I could want.

As a veteran Morrowind player with over 1500 hours on steam, and much more overall, I can say this game isn't Morrowind. But it's the closest thing I've played. It's even closer to Morrowind than Oblivion I'd say. Tamriel Rebuilt released the new Morrowind community expansion Poison Song, with OpenMW Morrowind continues to live on. People say Dread Delusion is like Morrowind, and I say those people have no idea what they're talking about... Morrowind is more than just mushroom trees and weird alien creatures. The Lantern of the Laughless Saint is way closer to Morrowind. Some of my complaints: The music is very limited and sounds a little generic fantasy-esque, I hope NerveLabs invest in some proper sound tracks. No audio for sheathing your weapon? Whenever I cast spells or hack at plants in town, all the town NPCs run over to engage, which feels kinda weird. It can feel like a repetitive grind of "leave town, fill inventory, come back to town, sell items, repeat" Some of my compliments: I love that you can truly pickup all objects, like forks, baskets, lanterns, fruits, etc. So many "Scrollslike" games miss this and leaves me scratching my head wondering how they could call the…

It turns out this is not an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark and is in fact an open world adventure game that let me play as a Bear Person who excels at punching and little else. Good stuff!

It's really good. It is like Morrowind, but it isn't just a copy. It has a lot of stuff to stand alone on its own.

This game would be good if it wasnt for the major bugs, crashes and performance issues. My pc is fairly good, i was able to play Baldurs Gate on high settings in 2k in Splitscreen. This game shows similar Dependencies (which i'm far above) and still i have to put all the settings on low, resolution on 1080p (looks horrible on my 4k TV) have to turn off shadows and still: the game is laggy. Its pretty sad since the graphics arent that beautiful (i like the artstyle but u prolly get what i mean) and it shouldnt be that demanding. If the performance gets fixed I'm gonna enjoy the game a lot more. But this game shouldn't outrun my PC and the dependencies arent accurate at all.
