Dato of Srivijaya

Dato of Srivijaya is a 2D retro pixel RTS/grand strategy that's been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. It's got a very unique premise where you are in charge of the Srivijaya Empire, which existed in the 7th-10th century and covered what is now modern Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Unfortunately, no matter how interesting or educational the premise for a game might be, it has no value if the game itself is no good. And wow, this one does not spark joy. It's buggy, with an incomprehensible UI, a broken tutorial, and phoned in, amateur/MS-paint/retro pixel graphics. It's not unrealistic to suggest the game itself is entirely broken, I wasn't able to play it at all due to the broken UI. Like most GameMaker Studio construction kit "games", this features lazy 2D retro pixel "art", instead of professionally done, contemporary PC graphics. Controls and resolution are locked, which pushes this below acceptable standards for PC. Tutorial is entirely baffling, no idea what's going on. In hindsight unsurprising since I can't read the title of the game.

Hey, like the game. Ill be writting gametips as I play: - Balance imports and exports or limit how much money is made. Currently, there are infinite goods on the market which arent based on any production or traveltime. Also, you basically have infinite money production even with just one village and have basically no expenses, so you basically have infinite goods. This aint balanced. - Buildings dont show exactly how much of what they produce. A percentage of stability or the amount of goods would be useful. - Making it possible to recruit more than one troops, for example through shift+left-mouse click (10+ troops) would make it easier to recruit more troops. Currently, you have to spam. - Game crashed after I tried talking to 3 other villages that attacked me at the same time. - Please add autosaves, I beg you! - When reloading the game, it should remember your language settings. Sadly, the game keeps crashing, so ill stop playing for now. Here is the last crash report I had.
