An ambitious sequel with clear flaws - but well worth your time. (Kept spoiler-free regarding major plot twists and story events.) I don't often write Steam reviews, but I felt compelled to do it for Code Vein 2. The game took a noticeable hit at launch over the world reset, performance issues, and the pivot to an open world - to the point where a lot of people wrote it off as not worth playing (For what it's worth, I played on a higher-end PC and personally ran into zero technical issues). The design choices definitely have their flaws, but there is still a genuinely good experience here if you give it a fair chance. The Good: • Visuals & Soundtrack: The game is gorgeous, and the soundtrack is incredible across the board, setting the perfect mood for both exploration and boss fights. • S-Tier Customization & Voice Cast: The character creator is top-tier with incredible depth. The main cast is super enjoyable, elevated by a stacked Japanese voice cast (Takehito Koyasu [Takasugi in Gintama, Olivier Lenheim in the Trails series] as Zenon completely steals every scene he's in). • Build Variety: The stat system and comprehensive weapon, forma and blood code variety …4 found this helpful
Great game had fun loved the story and the music was very good i only can say this was great3 found this helpful
I can't speak to how the game was at launch but in its current state it's a banger. Easy recommend.3 found this helpful
Well written Characters and Story. Combat feels good and most Bosses are cool. The Music is great too. At first i was wondering if the open world is really necessary but most locations had uses in Story or sidequests and it was segmented off making sure it's still somewhat linear which is good for a game with a more clear Storyline then item descriptions in Elden Ring. Only real downside the game has is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ optimization. I can run something like Monster Hunter wilds just fine but Code Vein 2 which is a smaller game in scale has frame drops/stutters and runs weirdly hot. If they just optimize the game it would be so good. I'll still recommend the game of course since it was indeed a great time regardless.3 found this helpful
It's fun.3 found this helpful
I really liked this game, even more than the first. I think the movement and combat are just fine. You can feel a sense of progression as you level up. I actually liked the story a lot too, I'm hoping there ends up being a sequel to this particular storyline as the characters are fun and the worldbuilding is pretty neat all things considered. There were some missed opportunities in terms of how they could have played with time jumping and what you could find in either timeline you jump to, but ultimately it was handled fine. If you like character creator games with solid story elements than chances are you'll like this one. The soundtrack is reallllllllly good. I've heard a lot of people mention issues about performance, but I really never ran into any issues. My PC is upper-mid tier but I played with a 2080 Ti so it was able to handle it. I maybe had a couple studders through my entire playthrough so I'd call that a success, in terms of a relatively bug free run. Ultimately I say give it a try, I really enjoyed my experience from start to finish.
