This is one of the games I don't understand. The gameplay is simple and self-explained by watching the trailer: run north, fight enemies and stay alive. Collect two currencies: gold and emeralds. You'll need gold to progress in the game. And you need the emeralds to buy permanent upgrades for your character. Now to the "But ...": [list] [*]This is an autobattler, so no fighting tactics. [*]The weapons and power-ups you'll find during a level have charges and are therefore consumables. So most of the time during a level you'll check on your equipment and try to find the (fairly distributed) items. [*]The rest of the time, you hunt for gold and emeralds, constantly fighting enemies, avoiding the fire or Death itself – and unfortunately, this feels unrewarding. Mostly there are 1-4 enemies to fight and depending on the difficulty level, they are not a big deal. Unfortunately, some of your weapons have cooldown and this is not helpful. Death himself kills you instantly and meeting him at a bottleneck during a level means a new try. That can be annoyi…9 found this helpful

Death By Scrolling is a great and charming game, I definitely recommend it! Ron Gilbert's humor is as awesome as always on this one.
When I find the water walking power-up, I can hold my breath for ten minutes! Thanks Ron. Having a lot of fun with your new game!
Its a pretty great little scroller!
A simple idea for a game, well-executed with a lot of character squeezed into small moments. This game is in my hotlist of games where I just want to shut off the outside world for a little while but only have the brainspace for pure reflexive decisions.
