Desert Law

I bought this a long time ago, but finally tried it out recently. I love post-apocalyptic stuff, and I can do with rough edges. But the pathfinding and formations are utter garbage. That's a deal-breaker for an RTS in my opinion.

Desert Law is an ancient game from 2005. It's a whopping 18 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. And what a nostalgia gouge... for a game nobody played back then and nobody plays now. This is essentially a ripoff of Fallout 1+2, but with RTS action badly aping Command & Conquer 2. Remember Command & Conquer 2? Yeah, and there's a reason for that, it was terrible. And so is this lazy ripoff. It's from the publisher, 1C, and if you ever wasted the time of your life rummaging through bargain bins in brick and mortar stores a couple of decades ago, you'll recognize the brand. This is one of the games you rummaged by and never thought about buying because it looked like it was trash, because it is. It's actually pretty nice, good graphics, okay story and varied missions. I enjoyed leading my own Mad Max gang into battle.
