Conquest mode.
Take control of one of the major houses and fight through a number of unique scenarios and situations. Personalize your starting house with a variety of perks and upgrades to tackle the many challenging objectives of the Conquest mode, ensuring you a unique experience every time you play.
Band together in 2v2 matches or face each other in a free-for-all of up to four players. Tailor the parameters of your multiplayer match to your preferences, including AI difficulty, map size, victory conditions, sandworm aggression, storms, and number of Sietches. Team up and try different faction combinations to identify synergies and dominate Arrakis.

Good 4x strategy game so far, but even though I knew what I was getting into I was still hoping it would be more of a straight up RTS like Dune II and Dune 2000 - both of which I used to watch my dad play as a kid and looked really fun. Spice Wars is most certainly worth the 13 bucks on sale atm, but if you're looking for gameplay like the ones from the 90s, this isn't it.6 found this helpful

Doesn't quite scratch my itch. Everything just seems so painstakingly drawn out and frustrating. It feels like a Euro style board game in that it seems like it's built around making victory so painstaking, that nobody will be able to outpace their opponents to such a degree that one player dominates. Instead, it feels like you need to put in half an hour to gain the sort of soft cap in size, queue up your research, and then you can watch a show and just check in from time to time, as everything after that is of minimal value. Authority makes sure that your expansion is effectively capped at a certain rate that just keeps growing with each village you take. Forget fast expansion, simply waging war with an opponent doesn't really work, as you're unlikely to be able to maintain a pace beyond maybe a village per week (in-game ofc) on top of the week you have to wait until a village is captured. You can of course skip villages and only capture a few along the way, but that still leaves a week each village to liberate them and an increasingly difficult hopscotch as you keep having to retreat to your nearest village for resupply before again pressing on. Really engaging RTS that is very well put together.
[h1]Ups and Downs in the Dunes[/h1] Resource management is a key of any 4X or RTS. Civilization 5, hallowed be its name, juggles eight major resources, with most others (strategic, luxuries) overlapping with the major resources in some way. Similarly, a personal favorite Endless Legend is built around FIDSI, approval, and to some degree pearls. They’re also fairly interchangeable: all of these resources can be converted in some way or another into more of each other. As for RTSes, heavy hitters like Starcraft and Age of Empires juggle less than five for the whole game. Why do I lead with this? Dune: Spice Wars has you juggling fourteen (technically fifteen) disparate resources, each necessary, yet distinctly prioritizable based on the phase of the game and faction. The tutorial does an okay job of communicating this, but most of the learning is done by hard knocks. Once gotten the hang of, it’s a very robust, interconnected system for empire building. It’s even possible, once the buildings are memorized especially, to do much of the resource conversion mentioned above, moreso on a 1:1 basis than a multidirectional basis.
