About DOOMBLADE

Lured out of her solitude, Gloom Girl discovers a chamber containing DOOMBLADE: a sentient weapon, trapped and bound for eons. “Doom and Gloom” join forces and begin a quest to regain the blade’s powers and exact vengeance on its captors.
Wielding DOOMBLADE, Gloom Girl can ride through the air to attack enemies. Target monsters to attack them directly, and slay them with DOOMBLADE’s wrath! The blade hungers for vengeance on the Dread Lords, who bound it in chains and stripped it of its powers. But first, it must regain its strength. Search for demonic shrines, where DOOMBLADE’s powers were hidden and stored by the long dead Gloomfolk, awaiting its return. Then use Doom Drop, Wicked Wind, and the Nightmare Onion to teach your enemies fear. From the abandoned halls of Gloomhaunt, into the New Wilderwood forest full of untrusting tribesmen, through the Molded Mines with their hedonistic shroom people, and into a technological hellscape known as the Power Sector. Gloom Girl must fight her way through these interconnecting worlds and destroy the monsters within as she hunts down the Dread Lords who imprisoned DOOMBLADE.

I bought this game on discount, and then it was given away for free as game of the week on "the other" online store. Both downloads are glitchy, but the one here on Steam was unplayable. The game would freeze whenever I would try starting it up. It would get to the loading screen and then nothing would happen. Several minutes would go by. Anyway, I hate this character. The way she trundles along is SO. F*****G. SLOW. And you can't simply swing your sword to attack an enemy. You have to target it with the left C-stick and then ROCKET yourself into it. Nowhere is this play mechanic more annoying than in a situation like where you're fighting the Golem and the screen is swarming with exploding "boom bugs" that have to be batted into it. You try to target one near you with your sword but instead it focuses on another on the opposite side of the screen and launches your character through the golem to the other side where the enemy your sword targeted instead of the one that was much closer then gets batted against the wall away from the golem. When I started the game I almost immediately disliked its gameplay mechanics, but I liked it aesthetics, so I wanted to try sticking…

The game is great with fun unique combat mechanics and movement where you use your cursor as a means to deal damage and to quickly move around, which can be really smooth and fast-paced once you get the hang of it, and a bit of bullet hell - which I think is pretty fun. The boss fights are also really cool and very fun once you figure each of them out. As for the abilities, I think you get them pretty quickly which really ramps up your movement and progression. The music and atmosphere are also great; I think it fits quite nicely for each area and combat section and the backgrounds are sooo cool - I love them. Also, the mini-stories you can follow through with some of the npcs are amazing and genuinely pretty interesting and surprising so long as you're the kind of person who likes to come back and check on them every now and then (like me). Now, as much as I did enjoy the game, I do have a few gripes about it too. While I think a big map is fine, the lack of pins or items that search for remaining collectibles once you're at the late game has genuinely frustrated me so much. There's just a lot of things you can interact with (for both items, lore, and achievements) but it also ma…

Great original concept of how you click on enemies to attack them; great metal music; great visuals; BUT: Huge performance issues made the experience extremely unpleasant. To simply start the game I'd have to wait 2-3 or even more minutes. And upon death I'd also wait 1-3 minutes. Backtracking and overall navigating on the map is horrible. I was constantly lost, meeting dead ends and so on. And the best part? You can't even warp, nor there are proper teleports. Use your foot to get to farthest map point AND THEN travel back, also by foot. The game doesn't even want to hint where to go and what to do. And while this game feels unique, I just couldn't keep playing, because I'm not wasting hours running around the map pointlessly in search of a fraction of progression. Come on, the game was made in 2023, might as well consider player's comfort.

I really dislike the movement/attack mechanic.

Actual play time 10hrs. Got the game for free on Epic Store but bought it on Steam to support the dev. Sad to see so few reviews for what is essentially a super-sayan simulator. This is not a platformer. The reviews that complain about "slow movement" are playing it wrong. Ok, maybe I'm exxagerating, it takes a couple of upgrades to get fully up to speed, but once you're there, if you touch the ground, you're as good as dead. The innovative playstyle has you using your dash-strike to avoid hits whilst annihilating swarms of enemies mid-air above a deadly chasm like some Final Fantasy character. Only critique would be the optional backtracking at the end for the alt ending. Also, play with m&k. Can't imagine playing this with a controller.
